2012--End of the World? Your thoughts welcome.

Okay, so I have an older sister who is OBSESSED with reading about 2012 and the Mayan Long Count calendar. She is absolutely convinced that the Mayans were onto something and that Armageddon is just a stone's throw away.

This morning she called to tell me about a movie that is being released in November called 2012 that is, obviously, about the end times.

Okay, so aside from the fact that my husband and I think she is a one french fry short of a Happy Meal on this issue, she appears pretty normal about other issues/situations. But she harps on this 2012 all the time to anyone who will listen.

I finally Googled it and read a little but don't find it to be any more or less impressive than the Nostradamus (sp?) guy. I think people can pretty much read anything they want into things.

So my question is, anyone here ever spent any time reading about this 2012 stuff? Thoughts?

Personally, I don't believe the world ends 2012. But if it does, what can you do about it anyway? So....don't worry about it, nothing you do will change this one way or the other. Worrying about what's going to happen in 2012 stops you from enjoying what happens today, pretty much about the only advice I can give on the matter.

It's not the apocalypse, 2012 is when Ray Nagin will finally reveal who he really is. Pretty close to the apocalypse though.

Alright, a little off-topic, but what exactly is non-archival? From what I understand, posts of a certain age get moved off the main forum and to the archive. Does non-archival mean the post is left in the main forum and never moved to the archive, or does it mean the post is deleted altogether instead of being archived?

on a positive note, I just figured out that if this is true, I have currently have enough shampoo/conditioner and toothpaste stockpiled to last my family until the end of time woot

Aw crap, that means I won't be around to actually get any fruit from those damned date palms I just planted. (Takes 4-7 years.) Bummer.
