Lower end Makita models also use plastic, like XML02 and XML05 models.
But actually, plastics can be a plus for residential home owners depending on their yard size because you are looking at a significant weight advantage at a ~40lb machine vs ones that weighs 60-80lbs+. Maneuverability is actually a quite underrated attribute vs a metal deck.
I'm a makita fan boy but even I'll admit ego makes better lawn equipment than makita. But makita does make quality products and the batteries alone make this a deal.
Edit: I thought the $374 price was for four 5.0 batteries not 4.0. It is pricey to me.
I have the ego self propelled for a year now and love it.

Have XML03C1. Great so far. For my small yard, I use two batteries in the mower. When I'm done, pop them into the blower and weed eater and finish. Don't even need the other two
Makita is generally on the pricier side of tools but the quality is top notch. I do know a lot of people with EGO and Ryobi that like their mowers so it's really hard to pull the trigger with prices like this. Not even a dual blade design for the 21".
I have the ryobi 18v and have no issues, my yard is also tiny. I was going to go with the 40v but had no need for it plus have so many 18v batteries along with other ryobi tools.
They list the higher end Makita as being a commercial model, but I wonder if any lawn care companies ever use them? I've only seen gas powered mowers used by the pros.

You would be surprised. I've seen quite a few pros that switched to battery operated equipment while I was deciding what to buy. Yes, they're not the majority, but they're out there

Interesting! Did you notice what brands of battery mowers they usually use? That always gives me confidence in a product being well built if the pros regularly use them, since they are more demanding in what they need from their equipment.
Awesome deal. But, weight is the problem for residential users. When grass hair is long and if users want to go small in one go, grass get struck on the drum for all the movers. Then it needs to be tilted sideways to clean up the drum. It gets difficult during this time with this one due to the weight. Awesome steal for commercial but awesome for residential who don't mind the weight of it.

I don't mind the weight of it
What you described happened to me once when I used it for the first time and the grass was super long. I had to go little slower and tilt it from the back once in a while to give the blade some space to move. Never had to tilt it sideways to remove extra grass, etc. Please note that I was using the bag to collect the cut grass at that time, since it was crazy long and didn't want to cover the lawn with that much dead organic material.

That's 18" vs the 21". Their 21" pricing is $25 higher.

An extra $300 for self propelled is good to you?
