The disk is the bottleneck, not the interface.
The 8Tb and up sizes are 3.5" 7200rpm WD drives and there are reports of read speeds in the 300's on that 8Tb somehow in testing. This one the drive is soldered to the interface so can't use it in a pc unfortunately. I almost got this one thinking they were same speed as the 8TB glad I did some research before pulling trigger.
I've had tons ordered arrive as previously opened used items.

I won't support them

So I know if you get this for the series x it would be for the older games, but does that mean that it would be for the original version of the older games or for the "upgraded" series x version like state of decay and so on.

I'd like to know as well it's a very good question I wish someone here knew the answer. I tried Google and found mixed information and I'm not sure what the real answer is

If you have a Series X console and the game has a Series X Upgrade, it forces you to download the upgraded version if you want to play it. You can't play the regular version off these external hard drive, it will force you to upgrade and put it on internal hard drive or the Sea Gate 1 TB SSD external memory card. Once you go Series X, all your games have to too. With Game Pass Ultimate I'm out of room on both lol.

Well, they might be right, though more for the hardware encryption than the USB-C, but if you're using it to store games you really don't care about that anyway.

I'm assuming you're ordering from Newegg, because at least for me this model has been showing sold out at Best Buy online every time I've checked since Prime Day started.

Are there ANY usb powered 7200 rpm drives? Wanting one for Ps5

Yes, the more expensive lacie porsche/g-drive models can be 7200rpm.
https://www.amazon.com/G-Technolo...B07745FR71 usually targeted at mac since they would pay the premium and perhaps because the ports had known power spec though I've never had a problem using such drives on a good powered hub.

It holds up fine as a regular drive. It's a marketing gimmick to make these drives seem better for gaming use when they're pretty much regular portable hard drives. I'm doubtful the difference between 3.1 or 3.2 is noticeable.
it wouldn't be noticeable, that being said the difference between different lines of drives can just be firmware now.

I have seen these a few times and I am still puzzled. What is the difference between one of these and say an easy store or passport? I know the passport typically has a longer warranty and the easy store and has digital encryption but I don't know what these drives excel at versus the others. They seem to be set up for adding to console storage But beyond that especially in a PC context are these better than the other WD drives For use on a Windows PC??
I have this device and the most noticeable difference is the fact that the HDD is housed in an aluminum case instead of hard plastic like the easy store or passport. Height wise it is also smaller than the passport/easy store so it's low profile I would assume. Honestly, it just has a more premium feel to it.

EDIT: I have also used it for my PlayStation external storage for over a year and no issues so far

For last 4 - 5 years, harddrive has not go down in price, only SSD did...
So get it if you need it... I have about 10 4 - 5TB hard drives.. I don't need anymore, but still tempting for me...

The drive speeds are at the higher end (I tested in the 120s R/W) and random access speeds seemed double from the tests I've seen compared to a normal WD portable drive.

Any ideas how low these will drop? I have a 2tb hdd that can suffice but would like one of these. Will these drop to let's say 60 by end of year?

Can you try write something big? Like more than 200gb? I'm pretty sure these are smr so once it used up it's cache, it's going to write at 5mb/s...

Grabbed one. I'm always using more storage with my youtube cooking channel, and my christmas light sequencing.

I have a 5 TB I bought from walmart a couple weeks ago, but this will double that down, plus I use backblaze to backup everything.
