I'm not an expert but here is my understanding.

C1 is manufactured in two factories, and one of them only makes the 'evo' panel. It's a lottery as to which one you'll get. Basically, if you are lucky enough to get the new evo panel then you can go into the service menu and just update it. The serial number will tell you whether you got the evo panel or not (you'll have to research that bit). But here is a post with instructions on how to change the settings to make the TV think it's a G1.

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...t-60757623

I believe doing this makes the TV drive the panel harder (which the evo panel can tolerate), and thus peak brightness can increase a bit. There is a lot of misinformation floating about on the impact of doing this. Some folks initially said that it trashes the sound quality (since speakers on G1 and C1 are different), but supposedly that's not true. I believe Vincent Teoh on HDTV YouTube channel mentioned that same which contributed to that misinformation.

Regardless of whether there is any detrimental impact or not, the biggest concern is LG can potentially void the warranty in case there is any issue. For a $3000+ TV it's definitely not a risk worth taking.

My (very limited) research tells me that if you use this 'hack'', at best you'll get meager improvements to peak brightness. But at worst you may cause some unseen detriment (maybe reduce the life of the TV via faster burn-in), and also may void the warranty. Whether there is much difference between a C1 regular panel vs C1 evo panel when both are running the regular C1 settings - I'm not sure. My guess is that without the G1 settings (which I would advice against anyway), the difference is going to be so minor that most won't be able to tell the difference. I would just ignore the 'evo hack' or the panel lottery and enjoy the TV as is.

Maybe someone has more knowledge on the latest developments on this. But thought I'll share what I know. Hope this helps.
I have a CX and a C7 and there is no real difference in the image quality, even between 3 years of models. OLED is simply as good as it gets.

is this significantly better than the GX (as far as picture quality) to merit returning (refusing delivery) of my 77gx order with similar perks? mount/no-mount stand is not an issue.

I can't comment on the GX, but I have a CX and a C1 and the C1 does look a bit nicer to me. But there's the panel lottery and other factors to consider as well obviously.

There are a couple neat gaming settings for the C1, otherwise extremely little difference.

The brightness upgrades LG claims just aren't there.

The C1 is practically the same panel as CX and GX, just with a wider range of VRR. The G1 is the one with the new panels that are about 20% brighter. I'm gonna wait for the G1 77" to get to around $3500 by end of the year. Honestly though, if this is used in the recommended home theater environment, you won't need the extra brightness. I feel like my B7 is already plenty bright in HDR scenes.

There is a lot of evidence that despite the marketing claims, many C1 TVs have the same evo panel as the G1. Then the same brightness can be unlocked via a setting. But that's the "panel lottery" someone referred to above.

Wow that's interesting. Is this a 3rd party "hack" or a built in setting?
