This appears to bounce between $28-35 very frequently according to 3Cs.

They're only single use.

When I worked at a hardware store, we would mess with new employees by prank calling the store and asking them for a price on a 1-story fire escape ladder. laugh out loud

Looks like Walmart has it for same price, free ship over $35. For those who doesn't have Prime or wants to score cashback.

So this was the primary reason I selected the X-IT brand model. I haven't tested it out in my new home (which may well need a new, longer ladder) but being able to give the ladder a dry run is an important step you can't go through with the single-use models.

Of course, any ladder is better than NO ladder.

Here's Wirecutter's take on the category: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutte...pe-ladder/

Good luck!

I love this in part because I realized that the room for my kids currently has the whole sitcom setup. This is to say, while my home office is where I keep the ladder since the only way out other than a single door that might require a leap over an indoor balcony is the window... the kids room and kids bathroom both lead out to roofs to the bedroom and garage below. The good news is that there's a not too terrible escape path out of those windows. The bad news is that my kids might figure that out someday and give it a try!

Fortunately for me my wife is a light sleeper because even if a horde of teens started clomping over my bedroom roof I'd likely do no more than roll over in my bed.

Good luck!

My thinking has always been that every home with a kitchen should have at least one fire extinguisher. This is definitely along the lines of a fire extinguisher in that everyone with a two story home should strongly consider getting at least one emergency ladder, try to gain some basic familiarity with it, store it somewhere obvious and check it out every so often, and hope that you'll never have to use the darn thing.

Great product and thumbs up even if I bought a competitor.

Good luck!
Jon
