At the end of the day the Fire HD is just not meant to be used with Play Store and that will catch up sooner or later. Dont listen to these people who act like it just works.
Anyways to this tablet, it's right on the edge of debatable as a deal IMO. The big issue is the CPU here is just underpowered of course.
I had the S5e that has a similar CPU, I traded it in to get a S6 and later a S7. I like the peace of mind knowing my tablet will still have enough power to be decent in 3 years, but YMMV. $180 changes the equation.
IMO if the OP doesn't like the lag on his FireHD, he wont be happy with this, as the CPU's are similar in power, AFAIK (unless this one is much better optimized etc).

Honestly I've only been using it for about a week and haven't noticed considerable lag with normal use. When I was researching it, people seem to have lag issues when pushing it a bit harder. Maybe looking through the comments from the previous deal might help: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/653083
Damn those comments kind of put me off from getting this deal. I think at this price point getting the s pen is a huge win but if it's as laggy as some people stated in that thread then I may pass. I just don't know of many tablets that can compete with this deal at this price point, if anyone knows please let me know and thanks.
I would say they are two different species. Kind of like if you like Atari just imagine getting a Nintendo!
Putting the play store on Fire isnt the panacea it's meant to be IMO. Some apps will start having issues, not updating etc.
