Just adding my experience. I have an older version, dif brand most likely, but have had them installed for 2 years or so. The thing is, if you install them like it shows in the product pictures, then yes dumb idea. I installed them so they only shine down at my feet and under my seat so at the rear passengers feet. They never turn off, day or night, that's my preference. Even at night I hardly notice them on, because they're just ambient light way below my eyesight. Other driver's bluish HID lights are 1000x more distracting than these will ever be.
You're right. Concerns for people's safety should not be brought up. Thank you for your contribution to deter conversation.
If your argument is that buying these makes your car similar to a luxury car since those have LEDs inside, then I think you're in the right place.

I gotta say, for anyone reading these comments, you can probably deduce the age and mentality of many here. Comments like Civic, Sentra.... the nay-sayers here sound like 40+ year olds.

With that in mind... lets try and guess how many 40+ year olds trying to teach a life lesson in an RGB LED listing are worth anything, but a laugh.

Update: Just realized this hit Front Page. Thanks to all the haters that created engagement. Your tomfoolery just made this accessible to a multitude of more eyes.

Perfect.

I like how you expound on details of "the real world" then want me to track down information on an impossibly specific cause of vehicle accident. But sure. Here you go:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-drivi...ed-driving [nhtsa.gov]

According to the nhtsa, distracted driving caused 3100 deaths and 400,000 injuries in 2019.
Also, after reading the correct document (not the one you provided): https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/...ion/813111

The primary cause of Distracted Driving crashes are of course cellphones....very far down the last is coded as, "While Using Other Component/Controls Integral to Vehicle". Which includes this definition: "Used when the driver was distracted while manipulating a control in the vehicle including adjusting headlamps or interior lights, controlling windows (power or manual), manipulating door locks (power or manual), adjusting side view mirrors (power or manual), adjusting rear view mirror, adjusting seat (power or manual), adjusting steering wheel, adjusting seat belt, on-board navigational devices, etc."

What I'm getting it is these lights aren't an issue. They are so far from being an issue they potentially cause as many accidents as a window switch.

So while you thought you had this gotcha moment of proving, I can't prove they are safe, you proved me right in not being able to prove they are unsafe.

Now learn to debate better if you are going to raise that 9 year old to be a critical thinker.

So how to you make this work like some of the factory options? Specifically... It's night and I just finished driving 30 miles to WalMart because Brickseek said there was a chance of getting a $5 500gb thumb drive. I failed at getting the thumb drive, but as I'm walking into the parking lot and towards my vehicle I want to press the unlock button and be greeted by a happy shining vehicle.

How do I rig such a feat?

I think you missed the part about reality. You seemingly have knowledge about the real world and still look at advertisement images and take them at face value...that's pathetic if you are older than 9.

All the being said, how about you quote me when I asked the other guy to produce an article or evidence of any car accident involving interior LED lights. Looking at Amazon sales, these types of lights sell 100s of thousands... this death trap must have recorded incidences.... no?

So prove it.
This. You can simply set the brightness to very dim or OMG who would have thought, you can even TURN IT OFF COMPLETELY when driving. The intelligence level of the world is truly plummeting..who would have guessed the movie IDIOCRACY was actually going to come true?!

This is nothing like MB ambient lighting. To even mention it in this thread is deceitful.
No its actually not. Lets face it, many if not most of us on SD cannot afford a Mercedes. So this is about as close to OEM Mercedes ambient light as we are going to get. But the POINT is that, properly installed and operated, these LED lights are perfectly safe and add some convienance to our less-then-Mercedes vehicles.

Quick version: Find a light that turns on when the doors are unlocked and splice into it.

Longer version: Find a light that turns on when the doors are unlocked and splice into it. You may need a DC to DC Step down converter [amazon.com] The reason for this is because I am unsure if these LED strips have a built-in convertor in the plug unit. I can't fully state if they are indeed meant for a 12 volt DC source from beginning to end and the plug may be converting to 5v DC before the rest of the electronics in the device are engaged.

In any case this likely will allow you to hide the cables even better than previously including reversing the installation. Where the longer extensions go to the rear and the main assortment of wires are tucked into your dashboard.

I own one similar to this without app remote and the only part I dislike about it is that if I turn them on, they blink every time. That default setting is bad. I keep these unplugged until I plan to use them.

Other than that, I like them. You can set them high, mid, to low. The picture shows them super bright and distracting but that's not what you'll experience in the real world...unless you install them aiming at you. Even on high settings, at night, these will not distract other drivers either because they are aimed towards the floor. The only people who will see them are people on buses or riding on high vehicles. These lights make it easy to find things if you or your significant other drop something in those areas at night.

I don't want to assume shills for those who actively got defensive when myself and others inquired if it's a safety risk, but since it's not legal in all states, that is kind of important for buyers to know or find out.

Auto tech, 40yrs, yeah, I'm one of the "older" guys on the thread, and after reading the comments, here's my 2 cents.
This sounds a lot like something that I would find causing a battery drain on a vehicle.
They might be a distraction to somebody driving down the road, but probably wouldn't cause an accident.
These probably look ok, professionally installed, doesn't mean you can't do it professionally yourself, and probably not that hard to wire into interior lights, or courtesy lights.
It doesn't matter how much money or horsepower you put into a Civic, it won't be enough, except maybe against another Civic..

You'd be an idiot to think someone talking to you like I do is a shill.

That said, please indulge the rest of us with examples of law forbidding the sale of these in whatever particular state you are dreaming of.

Update: I did the work for you in finding out laws: https://www.neonlaws.com

Like anything in this world you can break the law however you see fit. Therefore lights are legal to be sold everywhere. Lights are not contraband.

If you want to make an argument for letting people know whats legal while the vehicle is in motion on public roads then you should state that instead of fear mongering these lights "are illegal in some states" as a blanket statement that means nothing.

Keep in mind this is all for EXTERNAL lights like the priciest kit here, but not the internal lights. On top of that, how do you ignore these can be turned off? You act like installing these means it will be RGB, all the time, for all to see.... so disingenuous. Stop drumming up drama and you'll never have to see me reply to you.
