Is it, unlocked has generic FW, T-Mobile unlocked can accept any sim but has T-Mobile FW (splash screen etc)?
That seems odd.
I know Samsungs will flash to whatever firmware of what sim you put in. Or used too. Dont know the behavior of One Plus phones.
Anyways this phone has been ~395 at Amazon lately for the regular unlocked. I would assume pending clarity to all the above it might be worth a few extra $ for normal unlocked? And if you have the Amazon CC like I do you'll get another 5% cash back making it slightly cheaper than this.
Regardless the One Plus 8 is THE BEST value for new phones currently sold in the United States and has been for a few months. It's essentially a Galaxy S20/S20 FE for $400 new all the time. I saw One Plus USA sales increased 280% or something. Granted the OP9/pro is a turd to be avoided IMO.
It will be better than the upcoming Pixel 5a (rumored $450) judged on leaks too. As that phone will sport a 780G chipset which pales compared to the SD 865 here. Unless you really care about photos (and dont care about power/longevity) where supposedly the Pixel line is better. I can't really tell the difference in high end smartphone photos. And assuming the 5a doesn't have the same dim screen and slow charging issues as the 4a.
I recently got the T-Mobile OnePlus 8T. Stellar specs (Snapdragon 865, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB, 120 Hz display) except for the camera which really lags behind. I upgraded from LG 8 (which has a fantastic camera). Only disappointment is the camera. I compared the OP camera to Samsung and Apple's camera, and it's way subpar to them. Tried installing the apk of the Pixel camera suggested in forums but it didn't really make a difference.

Better how? The UI I 100% agree but Samsung cameras are far superior. I have the OnePlus 8 and my work Galaxy S9 camera is much better overall minus there's no wide angle. The telephoto on the OnePlus 8 is zoomed so I'm not even counting that one. Nightsight is nice I'll give them that. Every once in a great while the OnePlus 8 will take an amazing photo and it's always outside during daylight hours.

You get the idea. The OnePlus 8 is a great phone with a super fast UI and chipset and a crap camera compared to flagships from the last few years. If the camera isn't a big deal and you don't need the latest and greatest it's more than acceptable.

I've used it. I've said it in many OnePlus deals and it's lipstick on a pig. You're not fixing the camera on the OnePlus 8. I currently have 3 versions of Gcam on the phone now and they help with colors and that's about it.
