If it's the correct socket and your motherboard supports the cpu, then yes.

if you have to ask that, you need to do a lot more reading before you buy this.

Pretty good deal. Think it is worth upgrading from the 3600 to the 5800x?

Damnit. Had I seen this earlier I would have driven to my local Microcenter- Tax free weekend in MA.

I was able to get Best Buy to price match MC even though the closest MC is 3 hours away. YMMV.

BB is good about that. I am lucky, I happened to be near a Microcenter and stopped in. I kept going back and forth 5800x or 5900x. Walked out with 5800x as not sure the extra $150 was going to get me much more. BTW...Don't forget to enable Resizable Bar when you install if your MB supports it. I do get higher frames with it. Differs from game to game, but free performance. I think Nvidia supports it now also (I have 6800), but not positive.

I upgraded from a 3800x to the 5800x. Guess it depends... I ran Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 3440x1440 on Ultra (Highest) setting, and got 100FPS with the 3800x. Dropped in my 5800x, and ran the benchmark again, and...100FPS Smilie. I did forget to reenable Resizable Bar after I updated the bios and reset, so turned that on. And increased to 104FPS. In other words...it depends if your CPU is the issue, and in SOTTR it is not. Since this is the last AM4 generation chip, I decided to go ahead and upgrade, hoping to get the most out of my current hardware without having to drop a lot of cash for the next generation of MB, RAM, etc.

I was able to get a 5800x in Mercari for 320, after I sold my 3600x and an cheap B550 motherboard for 360. I dont have any of the latest GPU to benchmark, my R9 290x is the bottleneck (but its good at what I need it for). Its been killing these 2000+ files I am repairing and unzipping. I bought it for the extra cores and to pair it with a better GPU down the road. Was going to get the 5700g, until I found out that it didn't support PCIE 4.0. Will probably get a 5600g\5700g for some an future arcade build when either drops in the the 150-200 bucks range. I paired it with a MSI MPG M550 gaming edge wifi motherboard 16gb 3600 ram

Both cases it seems like your CPU is not the bottleneck, your GPU is keeping the fps the same. What GPU are you running with?
