Says 4000 joules x 2 so it looks like it's split between the 12 ports?

From a Amazon question that a poster answered:

2x4000 joules? 6 middle outlets are 4000J and 6 on the sides are 4000J, right Anker?

yes

However, Anker said this directly to a question:

What does 2x4000 joules mean? Why isn't it 8000 joules?
Answer:We use a brand-new dual surge protection technology, including dual surge protection, each of which is equivalent to the traditional 4000J surge protection, so that is 2X4000J.

you would be better off getting a name brand well known surge protector like belkin.
How is Anker not a name brand? Even Apple store sells Anker products as well as Belkin

well, belkin is a longgggggggg time well known brand that people have been using for a longgggggggggggg time and trust much moreeeeeeeeeeeee
Personally, I trust Anker a lot more, and I wouldn't be shocked if it were a majority opinion. My Belkin surge protectors haved worked well, but I've had other Belkin products that are overpriced crap. All my Anker stuff has been rock solid.

Anker's been around for awhile now and is pretty well-trusted these days as far as brands go, in my opinion.

No concerns about the fact that Amazon has almost universally moved the brand off to its own 3rd party store? Premier power strip brands like APC and Tripp Lite, as well as common secondary power strip brands like CyberPower, GE, Philips, and Belkin all remain available for purchase as shipped and sold by Amazon.

Good luck!

Good recommendation. Earlier this year a Tripp Lite was available at under $23 that featured 12 outlets, two USB ports, and the superior surge protector brand reputation of Tripp Lite.

The price of this Anker barely beats the Amazon Basics equivalent's everyday price by 50 cents.
(And just in the last few months the Amazon Basics equivalent has beaten this deal price)

Good luck!

In case you are in need of a 12-outlet surge protected strip sooner rather than later you can get a Cyber Power unit from Home Depot with free ship to store for under $20:

For those interested, this power strip is only certified by TÜV to meet UL 1363.

https://www.certipedia.com/certif...?locale=en

This power strip does not also include certification regarding UL 1449, which would be the additional standard applied to power strips of this type claiming surge protection. Here's an Amazon review [amazon.com] of an 8-outlet APC unit highlighting the appropriate markings.

Good luck!

I prefer the kind without usb charging ports. No vampire power loss, and no need too change when usb connection and charging designs change.

Nope. I have no doubt Amazon is acting within their own interests as far as they feel they can legally get away with. I'm not going to suddenly assume Amazon's interests are aligned with mine unless you can give me evidence why.

Amazon's actions alone aren't evidence. Based off previous actions (e.g. not selling Apple TVs and Chromecasts for the longest time), I would imagine Amazon's reasons are anti-competitive in nature if I had to speculate.

Looking around, would this be a better value? Can't tell what the differences are between the two. Thanks.
