Does anybody know if this is dual rank memory?

Yes, you read that right, dual *rank.* Not to be confused with dual channel.

Dual rank memory modules tend to have physical memory modules (the black squares you see on the chip) on front and back. According to some recent laptop reviews, it can make quite a difference. Take a gander here: https://youtu.be/8XCeAdFqsKg

My laptop also has discreet AMD graphics, so I'm looking to get a 32GB kit that has dual rank, in addition to decent CAS latency and speed.

For 3200mhz and over, its better to have 2 single rank modules.

I recommend buying two modules of this one, that are quite cheap compared to similar options:

That's not what I have seen from benchmark and review videos lately.

Is there a simplified reason as to when single or dual rank memory benefits overall speed and why?

With regard to single vs dual rank, I think in the past single rank was hailed as being better. However, this doesn't appear to be the case, at least with all AMD systems like in the video I linked. My link is to Jarrod's Tech, and that specific video is also backed up by Linus from LTT. These are two gentlemen who have spent far more time testing and evaluating computer products than myself and most people I know. I'm inclined to believe them.

Secondly, you're saying I should buy two separate modules of the same type of RAM. RAM is sold in dual channel kits for a reason -- they're a matched pair. If you mix and match RAM (yes, even the same brand and model), you could run into issues. Yes, you can get away with mixing and matching. Yes, I have done it. But no, it is not optimal.

Spot on!!!!Smilie

It went up around 1 July and stayed there for awhile but is steadily going down in price.

I am holding out for matching crucial sticks to what I already have as I am not sure about mixing speeds and brands.Confused

Read some reviews that are confusing at best.

Also any reason in the whole world to have 64GB of RAM?????????

Bro picking laptop ram is totally different from desktop ram. For the sake of not misleading other people, I have to point out that all your points are not correct.
