If they can make a 135" OLED for $3500-$4000, I would get that over a projector. Somehow, I don't think that will ever happen at that price.

If anyone is wondering, resale value of the Samsung speakers seem to go for around $599/699 on ebay brand new. If you do not need the speaker, the deal becomes something like taking $500ish off from projector's MSRP price.

Projector and integrated display are separate use cases, they don't really replace one another.

Contrast ratio and black levels are absolutely terrible. You'd be much better off with an Epson 5050ub. And yes.. I know that isn't 'true' 4K, but keep in mind that it's still incredibly sharp and has fantastic color/hdr capabilities, as well as excellent contrast/black lvls.

I guarantee anyone looking at these pictures side by side wouldn't touch the LG
I own this projector. The projector suffers slightly on the black levels but not to the extent you are complaining. If you look at hdr content in person, you will not say this. Plus this is laser. No need to worry for next 15-20k hours.

I already have an Optoma UHD60. Is this worth the upgrade?

I have probably spent thousand hours trying to search for the perfect low end projector with good black contrast and I've come to a conclusion that there isn't one. If you have a tight budget and you value contrast levels, get a Epson LCD instead.

In 2021 low end DLPs projectors all suffer from okay contrast ratios. Tone map, dynamic Iris, dynamic laser technology are all pretty limited in this range. Excellent contrast comes at a price. If you have 20K buy a Sony or JVC.

Personally I would probably buy the Chinese equivalent of this. It's a lot cheaper with comparable contrast because it uses the same chip and can be brighter

I agree that the black levels will be better on the 5050ub but this LG is an excellent projector that has received "editor's choice"/similar from various respected outlets.

From the various reviews I've read, the majority do state that the epson 5050ub has better black levels but that the differences won't be that noticeable to most viewers unless viewing uniformly darker content (is that the majority of what you watch?). Here are a few others benefits of the LG that I've gathered from reviews:
-respectable black level for a DLP albeit not as good as those on 5050ub. excellent contrast on bright/mixed scenes.
-true 4K (even though it does employ pixel shift)
-better sharpness/image clarity particularly with motion on screen
-covers wide color gamut/97% of DCI-P3
-better HDR performance
-much less opportunity for "rainbow effect" with it's dual laser design and ?lack of a color wheel? (not 100% sure on that latter item).
-input lag suitable for some gaming (but not competitive gaming/competitive FPS).
-excellent connectivity w eARC support
-enough brightness to allow for use in mixed environment (daylight/windows/etc)
-horizontal/vertical lens shift w optical zoom to allow flexible installation
-various benefits of laser technology including no lamp to pay for/replace like on a 5050ub

Here's a balanced review on this projector: https://www.projectorcentral.com/...Review.htm

Bottomline is the 5050ub has better black levels but the LG is comparable for most aspects and arguably better in some other aspects--depends what you value most for your use case . . .

To each his own, but I've been watching this projector for a few months now waiting for it to go on sale. With the $600 soundbar that brings the effective price of this new (not refurbished unit) LG projector down to approximately $2400 depending on how you do the math . . . add in the slickdeals cashback rebate and the laser benefit of not having to pay to replace the lamp periodically looks pretty enticing to me. thanks OP!
Re: dark content. The average display luminance (ADL) of most content is ~10%. That's dark hombre. http://projectiondream.com/en/mov...surements/

Most movies are actually pretty dark. If you like a lot of space travel/sci-fi and horror movies then I'd put a big priority on black levels. That is also if you have a dark properly treated room. If you are projecting in a living room then this LG should be at the top of the list. (Although it needs some kinks to be worked out too)

You don't need $20k. $5k gets you a JVC NX5 from a dealer willing to deal. You can also possibly find a JVC RS540/X790 for around $3500. Which has of the best black levels on any projector under $10k ever. The Epson 5050 is also darn good for $2400-2500 refurbished. If you're ok with a gimped 10gbps HDMI 1.4 jack then the Epson 5040 will do for $1500 refurbished.

Oh and the Sony 295ES can be found still for in the $3500 range on clearance. Native 4K and decent black levels. No dynamic iris though Frown

2700 lumens is pretty weak. Will be difficult to see during the day unless you have a completely blacked out room.

That's what I thought too. Are laser projector lumens effectively different because of the laser light?

I can easily see on my 120inch version nice and bright and colorful no it doesnt beat oled but it's more enjoyable at a cheaper price size wise. paid 3k for lg cx 65 oled and 3k for this one brought on release date.I just threw the oled in living room and setup a bedroom for projector.

I would not put a 150 lbs TV hanging on the wall. Most difficult to handle those large TV screens. Projector screens are very easy to install especially once of you have the projector in place on the ceiling. Not to mention that now you have short throw projectors which you can place at the bottom of the screen. No need to install on the top of the ceiling. And pair it up with nice Dolby atmos sound system you will get a real theater experience. I don't think TVs give that vibe.

If I had the room for it, I would no question go for a projector over a TV because I can setup a legit 2.35:1 theater screen instead of settling for a 16:9 aspect ratio that all TVs are manufactured to.
Agreed, you can also add masking panels for 16:9 content

RE the epson 5050 and 5040, where will you notice the difference between the HDMI speeds? will it be with specific content (sports, motion etc) or will you notice a picture quality difference between them? im not really sure what the HDMI speeds do to make a difference essentially...

Do u like the Epson 3800, or a refurb 5040 is a better deal, for around $1500
