If they can make a 135" OLED for $3500-$4000, I would get that over a projector. Somehow, I don't think that will ever happen at that price.

If anyone is wondering, resale value of the Samsung speakers seem to go for around $599/699 on ebay brand new. If you do not need the speaker, the deal becomes something like taking $500ish off from projector's MSRP price.

Projector and integrated display are separate use cases, they don't really replace one another.

Do u like the Epson 3800, or a refurb 5040 is a better deal, for around $1500
5040 if you've got a light controlled room. Contrast/black lvls will be better.

"After a few emails back and forth with LG, I've come to the conclusion that this projector does not accurately render 24p motion correctly.

Unfortunately, this means all video content displayed on screen is forced into 3:2 pulldown, resulting in a fixed 60hz image and judder in motion on occasion, particularly with camera pans and other types of moving shots"

If they did not fix that issue via firmware upgrade, this projector is not even worth $400.

Seems like a lot of projector gurus in here, so maybe I'll get some opinions: completely dark HT theater room; what projectors should I be looking at? No gaming.

Off the wall question: I might have two screens set up (one pull down), is there 1 projector that can serve both with lens shift memory?

With two screens, they will not be the exact same distance from the lens. So you'll need a projector with power zoom. Not manual zoom.

I don't get the attraction to having two screens. There are so many cons to it. Check out AVSforum for more details.

Completely dark room, contrast is one of the more important characteristics. Get a budget with an absolute maximum upper limit of $, then get a projector that has contrast that you can live with.

DLP would certainly not be my first choice in a light controlled room. The contrast is just average at best. Watching movies with a lot of dark scenes and you will quickly regret your purchase. On light outdoor scenes even a low contrast projector will look good. It's the dark scenes, which is most movies, is where the better projectors showing through.

JVC projectors are really good - I use a 2012 model(JVC DLA-X70R) and it is stunning. Newer models should be even better.

RE the epson 5050 and 5040, where will you notice the difference between the HDMI speeds? will it be with specific content (sports, motion etc) or will you notice a picture quality difference between them? im not really sure what the HDMI speeds do to make a difference essentially...
I don't think you will notice any qualitiy difference. But you won't be able to play 4k hdr at 60 frames. There aren't much content except demos that falls into this category. So this mostly becomes an issue for gaming.

I have 5040 but don't use HDR and hence bandwidth in a non issue.

2700 lumens is pretty weak. Will be difficult to see during the day unless you have a completely blacked out room.
It's 2700 ANSI lumens which is at a different scale than lumens

I have a projector and an OLED TV, love them both, but I think projectors will become less common over time because large TVs keep getting cheaper. What is the real advantage to a projector if you can get a better $100" TV for even less (which is where we are heading, but are not there yet)? You'd have to desire a couple extra feet enough and be comfortable with paying more for it.

I wanted a projector because I put speakers behind my acoustically transparent screen, that is the only reason. 77" OLED TVs can be had for the price of this projector. If you want 120-150" this projector still makes a lot of sense. I just think in a few years, it won't be so clear.
Even if they do make a 120-150" TV in your price range, do you really want to deal with bringing it home and getting it in the door then putting that monstrosity in your living room? Not everyone owns a mansion.
