Staples has an HP 17.3" laptop on sale for 25% off this Labor Day if anyone is looking for a cheap one. I like the large screen because my eyes aren't getting any sharper, and my lap isn't getting any smaller
It specs out well for the money. I am not big on HP laptops but I picked up one of these for my wife who just surfs and isn't very hard on them like I am. It is only an i3 but it is the newest series so is a bit faster than the old i5-1035G1 IIRC.
2.0Hz Intel Core i3-1125G4 quad-core processor
512GB SSD
Windows 10 Home
Free upgrade to Windows 11 when available
8GB DDR4 memory
Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution
802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2x2 Wi-Fi
41Wh lithium-ion battery with a run time of up to 8.25 hours
Bluetooth 5.0 provides excellent performance connection
Meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR and EPEAT Silver standards
Pair with a MU-MIMO router for a smoother online experience in multi-device homes
Go from 0 to 50% charge in approximately 45 minutes with HP Fast Charge technology
I could find any coupon codes to stack with it. Maybe some of your guys will have better luck.

Initial impression -- for an i3 CPU, it's pretty decent! 4 Core / 8 thread. 3.7Ghz Turbo.
The SSD is an NVMe Samsung according to device manager.
The WIFI card is an Intel AX201 Wifi6 adapter.
The screen is fine. I've seen worse and I've seen better, but for a $450 laptop, it's a decent screen. Colors and brightness are acceptable.
The keyboard is confirmed NOT backlit. As a matter of fact, the picture on Staples.com of this unit shows the F4 key with a symbol on it of a lit keycap. The actual laptop has the F4 key blank. So there must be a model with a backlit KB, but this one is not it.
If you have questions, let me know. I've got a spare 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM I want to stick it in so I'll be opening it up.
edit: I forgot, it comes with McAfee, Wild Tangent Games and Express VPN bloatware. Easily uninstalled. Other than that, pretty lean.
edit 2: Here are pics of the inside. 2.5" SATA missing cable, etc.

I've tried this before and had some success: https://youtu.be/h4UNp7ZMepE
Also, I picked this deal up and found that YouTube, etc, is plenty loud for me (though bass is lacking). However, when doing televideo with some clients the sound is weaker for some than others. What is the source of your audio? If it's televideo, perhaps the other person's mic is set too low.
