Just get the cheapest bluetooth OBD II dongle you can find. I suspect all of them use the same chip and they should all work with both Android and Iphone. I bought a no name brand one for $10. Download free software (e.g. inCardDoc, Torque lite etc) and you are good to go. I can read all the codes reliably. It even handle permanent codes perfectly, reads read time coolant temperature perfectly too. That helped me narrowed down the problem to thermostat. After replacing it and continued to drive for a while. The permanent p128 code gone.

Many of the cheap readers will not work with iPhones and iPads. So you will want to read the reviews and specifications to check for compatibility.

I found out the hard way that the Bluetooth radios in cheap ODB II devicesoften are not compatible with iOS. So I have a cheap old Android phone that I use as an ODB II reader.

Better than most then.

Forget Fakespot. Their numbers make no sense. ReviewMeta is better.

Exactly. This one is excellent, and is Scotty Kilmer's go-to for bluetooth scanners: BlueDriver.

Whew... that's got to be really nice, but it was a shock to see the price after the $5 Bluetooth devices I have!

What if u don't make it there in time to use theirs & fix your car! Buy 1 to have & don't risk running your vehicle any more than it might be

Not true anymore. They've started to read the codes for you and won't let you clear the codes because it's a liability issue.
