GoPro's site has HERO7 batteries on sale for $11.99 (normally $19.99). The HERO7 battery will work in HERO5/6/7. It will also work in HERO8 (edited because apparently it is not compatible with the HERO9), but you will not be able to use certain features like hypersmooth that require the newer blue bottom battery.
No GoPro subscription is required for the discount. However, to get free shipping, you need to spend $50. So to save the $15 shipping, you need to buy 5 batteries or other accessories from the site.
I have 5 batteries that have swollen from sitting in the charger for over a year (thanks COVID), so looking to replace them, I found this deal on GoPro's site. This may not work for anyone who only needs 1-2 batteries, but for a little more than the price of 2 batteries at Best Buy or Target, you could have 5 shipped to you.
I wonder how these batteries hold a charge over time. I have 4 i got new with my go pro 7 for a trip I took in mid November 2018. Used it once again in early 2019 but just charged them and left them loose since then.
Anyone have experience with these after a long length of time unused?
Thanks OP. I'm still using my Hero 7 Black to record my son's sports activities and have several batteries that are slowly losing their charge. Picked up 5 to get the free shipping.
These are $20 on Amazon with free shipping, so if you need just 1 ea, it might be a better deal to get on Amazon (with the newer blue bottom).
The deal is better if you get 2 or more from GoPro.
Amazon GoPro
20*1 = $10 < $27 = (12*1)+15
20*2 = $40 > $39 = (12*2)+15
20*3 = $60 > $51 = (12*3)+15

Just so you know, what ages any lithium ion battery is when it's charging at 100% and for hours and hours and hours. So once it's charged, take it off the charger. It's not gopros fault you left it on the charger for that long
Big company like gopro should offer Free shipping.
Why?
They are probably making $6-$8 margins if they sell it direct. You want them to pay $4 for shipping?
The reason companies have minimums values before you reach free shipping is so they don't eat their margins with the shipping cost.
Price on amazon dropped to $13.08 before tax if you are not in a rush (FREE Delivery Sep 27 - 28 for Prime members).
Make sure to choose sold and shipped by amazon

I never claimed that it was their fault. I was looking to replace them because of this issue, not look for free batteries because of it. Hence finding the deal.

I hope this one dominates; pretty sure they need a win after common GP9 issues.
