I think you're off by a factor of 1000: 20 members x 100 photos x 2mb is 4GB, which would make this drive good for almost 4000 years.
Sure can store a ton, probably more than you need for years to come if you aren't hording bunch of 4K vids. But any drive has chance to fail regardless. Work on a backup solution for things u can't afford to loose first. If not, the bigger the drive the more u lost in one failure.
There are things like 321 back up rules out there might seem far fetched for regular home. But the least to do is have duplicates copies on two different drives / store medium. ( not raid, that's not back up )

Now this guy knows the family photo post was a joke .. good one! If your family is 20 members x 100 photos per member per year x 2mb per photo = you've got 3+ years! (add a backup drive)

Any idea of the reliability of these drives? Anything like the Backblaze reports?
This shows a physically similar Toshiba drive near the bottom. Only notable difference is the data they have is for the drive that comes with an sanitize instant erase feature which makes it cost more. But seemed to score pretty well. (It's explained a little bit in the comments below it)

Yes. If you have an exceptionally large family.
Would this work in a Synology 220+?
I already have a WD Elements 12TB that I plan to shuck. Is it a bad idea to combine these two?
