Windows Defender has improved a lot. Most experts say that is adequate virus protection.

I work in the information security field, and yes, many "experts" says that in their testing.

In my real life experience, Windows Defender is no where on par with paid solutions.

Yes I did it on last month's. I have three years stacked but I don't know what the max years are. there are always deals so no rush.
From their website "Bitdefender Central subscriptions have a maximum validity of 3 years. You cannot merge activation codes that exceed this period. You can either activate the code at a later date, or you can use it in a different Central account."

I bought two of these 2 year /15 device from Newegg in February and August. Was able to stack them without issue going over 3 years. My license doesn't expire until February 2025.

I'm in a similar boat, bought one a few months ago and was able to stack on an existing subscription that has around 1.5 years left. So I now have around 3.5 years. So buying this one and trying to stack on top of the 3.5 years will or will not work? I'm confused with that statement since 3.5 years is over 3 years on my last stacking

I guess that's something new? I stacked some last year and my license doesn't expire until January 2028!

It paid for and installed bitdefender on my laptop and PC last month, it seems super intrusive and has no way, that I know of, to turn off the pop ups which are annoying. Next year when my license expires I'll probably go with another solution just because of how annoying it is.

Sysadmin here...the only reason I'm using a paid anti-malware product is because I got MalwareBytes on clearance for $3 a pop at Walmart...bought about 5 years worth. If you can't find a deal like that, just use Windows Defender that's built in to Windows. Use browser extensions like UBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, HTTPS Everywhere, and DecentralEyes. And don't do nefarious stuff like torrenting from questionable sources. It's pretty simple to avoid viruses and such these days. And no, Macs are not immune...that's a myth. The truth is that since Windows has like 85% of the market share, that's 85% of users for the criminals to go after...why would they care as much for the 15%?

How does this compare to Norton antivirus. Norton is about to expire in 27 days for me.
The price looks good.

Um, no.

It is just acceptable, and has the biggest resource hit of all AV-comparatives tested:

I mean you're quoting the best website, but it's not hard to find experts who recommend WinDef. AV comparatives is for those of us who don't mind learning about this stuff and getting the best and potentially learning a new software program that may be intrusive. Those experts that recommend WinDef also have a bunch of caveats about backups and avoiding dangerous behavior to make that recommendation. If you keep getting attacked, it might help to go above and beyond, but it's not necessary for a lot of people.
That said I'm a big fan of Bitdefender. I don't find it intrusive at all and I can use the free VPN (limited) when I have to connect to an open wifi

They all come with crapware. Ideally, you want to pay the least money for the most effective solution with the least crapware.

Are you using the free version? I have never had a issue with "crapware". I have also never had a issue with it being "huge and slow". Strange that you having those issues. The reason why I switched to Bitdefender was because of the amount of pop ups I used to get from Norton and Mcafee. But, I do use the paid version of Bitdefender. But at $40 for two years, you can't beat it IMO.

I bought the lifetime license just before they stopped doing that. Glad I did at the time.
