Firesticks are laggy AF. At least the $25 one I got at Target on Black Friday last year is.
are you kidding me? Android TV is like the slowest. buggiest ever. any of the new 4k firesticks blow them away. seriously, they have to be hard power cycled all the time

Tivo stream 4k is also 19.99$ at walmart. Check your local stores. Tivo 4k is also pure android stick and it has dolby vision and dolby atmos support and comes with nice remote with numbers. I know it has few issues for some people with tivo layer software but I "de-tivo" and now it is pure android box.
I think I agree. But wish they would fix the VPN bug where ethernet disconnects on VPN connect or sometimes it simply does not connect!

Occasionally, the YouTube live streams get pixelated with garbage patterns and there seems to be no fix for that...

Of course I've also heard of Button Remapper issues... Have you experienced any of these?

This is an insanely good deal for that price. It use to freeze a lot, but since the update, it's been running like clockwork.

I've said it in other threads and I'll say it again and get more thumbs down 👎 and that is you're absolutely correct. I have the Onn box, TiVo, Firestick 4K and new Google Chromecast and the TiVo beats them all hands down. It's fast and has the best WiFi connection. Those that knock it gave up before the updates or more than likely never owned it and base their rants on old reviews. Even if you leave the TiVo stock it's the best bang for your buck by far with the new low price.
I agree. Best value, it seems. Have you been able to fix the VPN issues? Where Ethernet is disconnected upon VPN connection...?

I have two of these devices and I absolutely love Android TV and this device is a great value but yes, it locks up on me all the time. I'm constantly having to unplug it and plug it back in order to get it working again.
I honestly think you might have a faulty one. I have had no such issue whatsoever and I use it constantly to run moonlight at the highest settings for streaming gaming from my pc.

Very few VPN issues using IPVanish and VPN Unlimited. I leave the VPN on constantly and use split tunneling for apps that don't need a VPN. Once or twice a month it will disconnect is all.

Ugh, this maybe not the average user experience, but I just bought this tonight in-store and if Walmart was still open I would have already returned it!

First issue; the remote was not synced upon first start up. The IR port is on the same side as the white led, but still nothing. There are no extra USB ports if you wanted to plug in a controller to get you off the ground. Luckily my tv has CEC so I was able to pair the included remote using my tv remote. After pairing I was greeted with a remote control update. The home button does not work. I mean a light comes on when I press the button, but the Android box does nothing. I wish I checked it's function before the update...

Second issue; The Android system update fails to install. I tried to update it before installing any apps or signing in, then tried signing in, then tried a factory reset, and I always get the same failure message. "Secure check failed (not match)" "E:Error in /cache/update.zip. (Status 7)"
Installation aborted

Pretty disenchanted, I may return it for a replacement or just get my money back.

You need to disable as many apps as possible and install a new launcher like wolf launcher. No root needed.

Does this device's remote pair with Shield TV? At $20 it's almost worth it for the remote alone.
Not sure. I guess you'd have to look up if you can even put the remote in pairing mode. This remote is paired automatically out of the box.

Is this good for YouTube Vanced or Smart YouTube TV? I've been waiting for a $20 4k fire stick.
SmartTubeNext is the latest and greatest for android TV, it has Sponsorblock on top of AD block, which is a godsend.

A workaround to that would be to upload your video to a cloud service like Google drive and use a file management app like file commander to access said video.
Or plug your external HD into a Raspberry Pi and have a cheap fire server available to every device on your network.

Got one earlier this week in store. Snappy and looks exactly like the Dynalink I have, except for the white color remote which I prefer because I am always grabbing the wrong black color remotes for my other devices. No freezing issue since I uninstalled and disabled all the apps that I do not use.
