Walmart has theirs locked so you can't sideload apps easily, but I'd bet that there's a workaround.
The netflix package is the basic 2 screen, which is DVD quality and costs $8.99/mo. I believe you have to pay more to get 1080 video. So it's a $54 deal, which makes the chromecast still cost over $40.
I'd also look closely at the fine print. I saw that I'd get 3 months of free youtube premium with the chromecast with google tv. After reading the fine print, looks like you can only get it if you've never even HEARD of google.
I got my Onn box yesterday, and I like it very much. I had an order for the chromecast with netflix like you did, but I canceled it after spending a day with the Onn.
Performance is surprisingly good, especially considering I'm coming from an older Shield.
No glitches, locks or problems. As far as updates...for <$20 I don't care if it never sees another update again! Google will have a refresh of their chromecast w/google tv in the next year, and I'll have extra cash in my bank account to buy it in a year or two!
And I took a good long look at the remote google included with the chromecast with google tv. I prefer the Onn, way more useful buttons and I like the button placement better.
Looks like the google team REALLY liked the idea of shipping a chromecast without a remote control. And if they had to make a remote, it wasn't going to be a good one!
I have the Onn and I definitely think the volume button is a big improvement over the Chromecast, but I don't think it's worth $14 more (assuming you do the Netflix deal the Chromecast is roughly $6). I don't need Netflix so there's no reason for me to get the Chromecast, but for others that might not be the case.
I'd rather have regular security updates. These IoT and streaming devices are the first route for people to exploit home networks. Something that doesn't get regular updates is going to make things even more easy for that. Of course you can setup a network where devices like these are separated from your other internet connected devices but I doubt most would know how to do that and some complexities are introduced with having different devices on different networks.

I don't have an HDR set so this was never an issue for me but for others with more modern sets it was a significant issue.

Remote wise, without looking at both side by side, the input, settings and dedicated tv button that takes me to youtube tv are a plus imo.
My router keeps out most of the evil stuff from ever reaching the devices in my home, and will isolate a misbehaving device that appears to be infected. So I'm a little less worried about security updates. Hell, my phone hasn't gotten an update since May!

Decided to try and figure out which is the more powerful device (for science). Tried to install Antutu Lite, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get past the terms screen. Then tried regular Antutu, but it wouldn't recognize the 3dbench apk being installed. Finally, went with 3DMark. Sling Shot Extreme and Sling Shot were the only tests that would work on both devices. This scored 371 and 590. Fire TV 4K Stick scored 252 and 433. So this is definitely the faster device.
Is it possible to get a Bluetooth keyboard fully working on these things? It recognizes the trackpad/mouse part of the keyboard and the directional keys, but doesn't recognize the character keys so I can't type anything. In RDP, all the keys do work.
