Here's my review of the Auvipal G9 Pro+ with the Nvidia Shield which is located within a XDA thread that is dedicated to testing and commenting on possible third party remotes with voice control that work on the Nvidia Shield: https://forum.xda-developers.com/...t-83655781
The Auvipal G9 Pro+ is a 2.4Ghz remote that has a built in keyboard, back lit keys, IR learning keys (to control your TV) and voice control that works well with Google Assistant and have been very pleased with it. Auvipal also has a version with BT (so you don't need to use a dongle to use it with the Shield), but it doesn't have voice control and the IR learning wasn't working well with my TV set for me so I went back to the G9 Pro+. Once you pair up a half-decent remote with the Nvidia Shield I guarantee you'll have a much better experience with it vs. this box. The Onn box is great for the price but has way more limitiations and inferior hardware vs. the Nvidia Shield (any of the models). Plus Nvidia supports their Shield TV boxes well and provides updates pretty regularly.

He also provides great content for modding and improving various FireTV stick/cube streamers. I personally don't like the android skin that Nvidia or Amazon uses as it's way too busy and cluttered for my liking. I've modded my ShieldTV to use the Wolf Launcher and my Fire TV Stick 4k to use the latest version of TV Launcher.

Man things have come a long way. I was way OG and thought it was groovy just getting a Xbox 360 to be a media player back in ~2007 (I never fussed with jail breaking an og Xbox for media consumption). Then I committed to dedicated HTPCs. Tried messing around with OG WDTV Live players but they stunk, so much extra crap you had to install, config, hold your tongue just right. Then the rPi versions 1 thru 3 but they never just tickled my fancy. Then a chromecast cause why not?
I wish my 4th gen i3 was up to 4k snuff but it isn't
I really want to stay in the Windows environment for some reason, guess I'm just one not willing to change. But I can see why devs are focusing on Android apps cause they can appeal to the masses.

I finally hail mary'd it and just opened up a guest network with no password and it connected instantly. Okay, how do I get 5.1 working with the ONN and tivimate? My receiver keeps saying 2.0 and tivimate just says "stereo"
However if I go to my OTA tuner, HDHomerun, via the ONN Android TV it shows glorious Dolby Digital and PCM 3/2.1 and sounds glorious with vocals properly out of the center channel. Tested with Sunday night football.
I swear to Allah there's always something with this crap.
The good: It has a couple more Dolby licenses, Vision and Atmos IIRC. It also has USB C so less OTG crap to deal with.
The bad: Comes with TiVo bloat and you have to sign up for a useless TiVo account. However you can remove most of the bloat by de-TiVo'ing it [tivocommunity.com]
On my receiver it always shows "Dolby Digital + 3/2.1" whereas the ONN would show either Dolby Digital or LPCM 2.0. HOWEVER, for the life of me I still can't get local media that has AAC 6 channel discrete sound to play correctly, it downmixes it to stereo. I've tried both VLC as well as Kodi. I'm at a loss.
These lil $20 streamers are SO close to replacing my HTPC, but oh so far away
