Of course, because I don't like routers that take up too much surface area, I must live in a closet. Go f yourself, buddy.
Have a good day too.
If you put this vertical the antennas would overlap causing a degraded signal. If you want to be space efficient, fine, but you are going to trade function over form. The units that stand vertical suck in general and there is a very real reason why. Their antennas are normally built in, or if external suffer from the inefficiency noted. So yes if those types of routers cover your space fine, this is way overkill for you. Seriously save your money, no benefits here with this one.
In fact how the antennas are set in this picture is not the most efficient setup if dead center in your home on a living space level. It's actual in the instructions and you can customize the placement for your home to achieve optimal coverage.
If you are looking for online gaming, wireless is not the way to go unless absolutely necessary. You will be better off with a 100ft (or longer) run of ethernet cable. It might be a PITA but it beats anything wireless everytime. Don't need a expensive router either, use what you have and pay someone to run it. You will still come out cheaper probably.
Newbie... How do you replace the Verizon fios router with this? Do you use both?

You just disconnect the Verizon router, install the Asus router app on your phone, plug this in, and use the app to find the Asus router and follow instructions.
This is my question too but @optimustarzan is wrong. The FIOS Router has a built-in modem. This does not as far as I can tell.
you can either disable wireless and DHCP in the Verizon router and set it to bridge mode or you can disconnect the Verizon router in the ONT and replace it with the Asus.

The Verizon router should be downstream of the modem, IIRC depending on setup - instructions for doing it online should crop up if you google Bridge G1100 or something similar.

because wifi6 is worthless for a residence
so if you already have a decent gig dual AC
there's little point in buying any new router.
this issue gets debated here on pretty much
every router sale thread, so buckle up
Simply not true, I have a top end AC router (AC5400) and AX router (AX-88U), and the AX router gives me more than double the speed and lower latency.
I don't know if it's just me, but I prefer routers that I can stand vertically. They use up less surface area. I wouldn't buy this one just for that reason. If you can't turn off those blue LEDs, it's a guaranteed no buy from me.
I think this one has mounting brackets so you can put on the underside or side of a desk or on a wall.
Gotta say that I have the ax88u and the gaming features are questionable as to how helpful they are. I've had all sorts of latency issues streaming gamepass or stadia games over wifi with it on that are fixed when turned off. This might not be the case if you're running a wired connection or dealing with so much congestion that gaming is unplayable otherwise, but in my experience buying these routers for their "gaming" features just isn't worth it.
I think the gaming channels are different from the streaming gaming channels. If you prioritize streaming, then stadia and gamepass should work better. Technically you are streaming those games.

Man, don't you just hate it when your router is super stable and works well? Definitely needs to be binned when it starts doing that.

I don't think there is WiFi 6 support in the open source third party firmwares yet. Support for maybe 1 or 2 models so far.

This works with third party firmware. Merlin which is basically stock with some modifications.

You don't need a modem like you're thinking of.
