I want to jump on this. I think this would be a great CPU for an entry PC, especially the way things are with GPU's. May hold out for the 5600G. Damn decisions.
How are these 5xxxG series as HTPCs? How comparable are they against 1050/Ti? GT1030?
These are perfectly fine for HTPCs, but if you want to play 4k60 video, then you'd want to make sure your motherboard has at least HDMI 2.0 (or DisplayPort, but you'd likely need an adapter if connected to a TV). You wouldn't need a separate dedicated GPU unless you're trying to run multiple displays.

If you don't game then yes this is absolutely a monster APU. The 5800x is more powerful but basically the same thing without the graphics.
