The i5 @ $399 is a good deal. 11th gen with iris graphics is more than id expect for that price. It's 1080p IPS. It can handle mid level gaming at good frame rate. You can upgrade the ram and add a secondary spinner drive for less than $75. I think this is an excellent budget laptop. I know someone who got the 17.3" version of this for $519 @BB and they're really happy.

Thanks for your question. No, this laptop uses a standard barrel connecter for charging. It cannot be charged through the USB-C port. This model does not support video out through the USB-C port. It has an HDMI 1.4 port for video output to a monitor.
Whoever works at HP and came up with the idea of SILVER COLORED laptops... should be fired.

Would the i5 at BBY be able to run a game like Fallout 4 or New Vegas at a reasonable frame rate?
It will prob "run" but you will be disappointed by the graphic quality ie. Low settings 720p.

I see some confusion regarding ethernet port. Let me clear it up: the i3 model has it; the i5 model does not.

Despite the lack of ethernet, I'm drawn to the i5 model.

Q: Can I switch from Windows "S" to "non-S" version?
Yes, you can switch easily from S to non-S. Once you do it, you can't go back.

Can upgrade RAM according to this

Has anyone opened the i5 up? Does it have two empty slots, one for ram and one for memory?

I found the service manual for this computer here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Man...914467.pdf

It looks to me like both RAM and SSD can be replaced fairly easily. The RAM slots are currently using 2x4GB but can be upgraded up to 2x16GB.

Is there an easy way to tell whether a laptop supports charging through the USB-C port and/or if you can drive dual monitors through the USB-C port? I am trying to compare this to the OfficeDepot/OfficeMax offer and it looks like that one has USB-C 3.2 and someone in the reviews mentioned maybe being able to drive dual monitors through a docking station but no mention about power and it has a separate round DC-in power port.

Thanks! I bought the i3. I'll upgrade to windows 11.

Anyone know if i can return the laptop without paying return shipping? I changed my mind and it doesn't let me cancel. I tried to cancel after 35 minutes after placing order. It says "We're working on your order. At this point, we can't cancel". It'll arrive on Tuesday, I don't even see the Tracking#.

Got the i5, put in 32gb I had lying around, specifically "Mushkin Essentials – DDR4 Laptop DRAM – 32GB (2x16GB) SODIMM Memory Kit – 2400MHz (PC4-19200) CL-17 – 260-pin 1.2V Notebook RAM – Dual-Channel – Low-Voltage – (MES4S240HF16GX2." These work fine.

I tried another pair of sticks, " Mushkin Redline Notebook – DDR4 Gaming Laptop DRAM – 32GB (2x16GB) SODIMM Memory Kit – 2666MHz (PC4-21300) CL-16 – 260-pin 1.2V RAM – Dual-Channel – Low-Voltage – (MRA4S266GHHF16GX2)" and these did not work as a pair. Only one stick would work at a time. The sticks worked fine in another laptop so it's a peculiarity off the hp.

Hope this helps

Uhh.. it was a question, based on some Costco models with 15 months free subscription, which would be worth $40+ if you need it.
