If you're just looking for cheap & relatively good,
1: the HD 10 current version goes on sale for around $75-$99 often
2: the HD 10 older version is available for $74 now though compared to the new HD 10 sale price that's not that good of a discount.

Otherwise for an 8 inch fire HD, yeah, this is decent, but has a much worse (resolution etc) screen than the HD10, and half the processor cores, so if the price difference is like $20-30-$40 depending on which HD8 and HD10 one compares maybe the HD10 options are better for future proofing, better capabilities, etc.

Why do people downvote the truth. Do not expect these to compete with ipad or samsung tablets. However, they are definitely MUCH better than no-name trash tablets, and you get a pretty decent support. Also you can trade them in for $10 + 25% off (is this still going on)

Not sure how they stack up to eachother, but the non plus version is $44, plus 10% back in prime credit card rewards (vs the 5% on the 8plus). as far as I can tell, you are losing a gig of ram, and the wireless charging, which may or may not be a deal breaker for some.

Agree with the above comparisons: HD8 vs HD8 Plus, and HD8 vs. HD10.

Now the question is when will the HD10 model(s) go on sale, if at all??

If I knew that an HD10 model would go for sale for $70 or less, I think i would hold out for one versus these HD8s.

I still have the old 7" tablet that I am planning to trade as well as really old Kindle Fire Tablet that goes into boot loop (the one with amazing screen and stereo speakers from way back).
So I am thinking I trade in both, get the plus against Fire 7" and get the non-plus for the old bricked one. Is the non-plus much better than 7"?

HD8 vs HD8 Plus

8+ had more ram and supports wireless charging.
On such specs you kinda want every advantage you can get, hence, in my opinion, hd8+ for $55 is a better deal Smilie​

I paid $50 last October for the HD10 with the 20% trade in, so it's possible.

@soopafly that is not even flash. Flash is when you replace the stock rom with a custom android build. In your case, just factory reset, which you have to do before sending it in any way.

I have an HD8+ and an HD10 (previous to current gen). The HD10 is significantly faster and more usable for day to day. Even with the extra gig of ram the HD8+ is slow as hell.

I can't believe how slow my 3gb hd10 is to switch apps or screen rotation and even a bit sluggish once in apps like web browsing. But at least it has a good screen once it gets going. I wouldn't want to use something slower with a worse screen if I can avoid it for around $25-30. I use regular android apps, like chrome, and nova launcher and xda fire toolbox to get rid of most amazon stuff.
