On large ultrawide monitors, the curve helps significant reduce eye strain / eye fatigue. If you Google around, there have been several studies done that confirm this (some more scientific / precise than others, but almost all conclude the same thing).

Basically, your eyes are not flat - they're rounded, so having the curve helps brings more of the monitor into your field of view without needing to move or strain your eyes (which happens has a reflex even if you don't intentionally do it) to see what's on the screen because the curve brings more of the image into a narrower field of view.

A curved monitor isn't going to solve every problem, and the larger the monitor the more you will need to move or strain your eyes to see it (for example, you're never going to have the entirety of a 49" curved monitor into your field of view), but it's almost always going to be easier on your eyes than a flat monitor will be.

I went from a flat 27" to a curved 34" ultrawide several years back as my primary productivity monitor (mostly office applications, word processing, etc.) and while I wasn't having any serious issues with the 27", within a day or two I noticed a considerable relief from eye strain and headaches and have never looked back.
That sounds opposite... Usually the bigger the monitor, the more people like the curve.
From my research if you game you want a curve. If you work and do photo & video editing you don't necessarily want a curve.

So which of these larger monitors do you think works best. I'm a programmer, I watch some video, but I play virtually no video games. Maybe an occasional boardgame with tabletop simulator, not exactly framerate dependent Smilie. I'm looking for a main work monitor next to my 28" vertically mounted coding monitor. Testing code, SQL work, business documents, light image editing (not a pro), emails, video.

The choices on SD right now for a larger monitor seem to come down to:
This 34" flat Samsung for $249
The 35" curved Monoprice for $300
The 31.5" Acer curved Acer for $230
(The 34" dell for $450 is a bit more than I want to spend)

I believe they're all VA 2k panels. I've never had a curved monitor so I'm not sure if I would prefer it or not. Since I never game I'm not really sure how much the refresh rate and response time really matter. The stand doesn't matter because I'm going to hang it on a VESA arm next to my vertical 28".

I'm looking for the most comfortable, best looking monitor to sit at and work/code for 8-10 hours a day. Opinions on the best of these 3? Or, if I should wait the two weeks for Black Friday and what I should look for? Thx

I got this model from Costco about.... 3 months ago? Absolutely no complaints. Ok, one gripe. My 1060 Super can't really drive games at that resolution. It's freesync and works with Nvidia's freesync support. It's mostly used for software development and I might be having some neck strain but it's no worse than would be with 2 27's. If I could go back I'd have gotten a curved screen just to see if it reduced neck strain. However, the curved screens are hella deep and nearly twice as much.
NVIDIA is gsync, freesync is AMD/open source

Nvidia has support for some freesync monitors and you can turn it on for the unsupported. They call them G-Sync compatible but.... They've just made a translation layer between their software and the API for freesync. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/gefo...ors/specs/

So tempted. I'm a developer and have been using a 3-monitor setup with a 27" 16:9 as my center monitor (1440p). I am still frustrated that I can't get 3 windows up side-by-side on the main monitor. The lack of curve, though, I think could be an issue and is probably the only thing preventing me from giving it a shot.

Does anyone know what Walmart's return policy would be for a monitor like this
I am a full time developer and have the non curved one. It is not a big deal and it is glorious having 3x editors side by side with enough space to also see your project files panel and code structure panels. I still flank with 24"'s in portrait but I swear I could get away with just the ultrawide.

What is the difference with and without a curve seriously?

Yea I don't see a big difference if you are using the right resolution. If your on a laptop that doesn't support the resolution and your on a smaller resolution, the larger sized curved windows are a bit annoying but still totally useable.

Any complaints when looking at the corners of the flat ultra-wide? Such as the close button on a window, or the bottom line of your terminal when the terminal is on the right?

As someone suggested on one of the previous pages, I use "DisplayFusion" and it really helps manage this widescreen if you are a developer.

Samsung does have an inbuilt option to split the screen with two inputs simultaneously being fed. If you want the work with a single source and split the screen real estate "DisplayFusion" is the way to go.

There is no built-in speaker for this monitor. There is a headphone jack output that you can use for audio output.

Seems good but I'd be weary of the fact that this is VA not IPS and also it doesn't have gsync. Those 2 are dealbreakers for me

With how large this monitor is wish they would have included a better stand. My local Wal-Mart had one on display. Good looking monitor screen wise but that stand is a 100% no go unless you are going to wall mount the monitor. Even with small taps on the surface it was sitting on it wobbled allot.

Received and set up the monitor today. I find it quite disappointing when compared to my current 32 inch Lenovo QHD non-curve IPS monitor purchased last year from below deal. As many others have mentioned, brightness is ok but the color is very washed out and the viewing angle is not nearly as good. I was hoping to be wowed by the ultrawide screen for productivity but the improvements over the 32 16:9 is not much. The screen is wider but not as tall as the 32 inch 16:9 Lenovo, so neck strain is now more horizontal than vertical. I will probably stay with my existing setup until a higher quality curved ultrawide monitor deal comes along.
