Amazon Basics 5.5-Inch Slim Jaw Adjustable Wrench with Inch/Metric Scale ($7.35 w/ Free Prime Ship)

Works great as an adjustable bike cone wrench, as well. I own one of these, and it's very nice quality for the price, and the machining on the adj jaws makes the jaws extremely thin vs a normal adj wrench.
  • Ideal for auto repair, general assembly, maintenance, plumbing, and more
  • Extra wide opening up to 1-3/16-Inch(30mm); Thin 2.5mm jaws to access space where a standard wrench won't reach
  • Drop-forged, heat-treated Cr-V steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish
  • Comfortable grip handle
  • Dimensions: 5.5 x 2.25 x 0.5 inches (LxWxH)

I can't think about a lot of use cases where only the tips need to be slim like this. Of course there are a few, with hard to reach spots in cars etc.
However I wouldn't use it when a normal wrench fits, because it rounds off the screw head easily.

I'll never use an adjustable wrench ever again. Its been 10 years or more since I've used one.. There's too many better, newer tools (at a much higher price) that will do their job better.

However, I would love to see a vise grip style with thin jaws like this. It would save me quite a bit of time on stuck collets.
An Irega-made adjustable wrench might change your mind. They sell under their own name and they make Channellock's adjustable wrenches. Made in Spain.

For locking pliers, definitely check out Grip On. They don't make exactly what you're describing, but their needle nose locking pliers usually do the trick. Also made in Spain, and IMHO Grip On is at least as good as vintage, made-ib-the-USA Vise Grip pliers, but with far more diverse offerings.

If you work on bicycles then yes (I got this just to work on bicycle wheels and pedal installation, etc). Not much for Auto.

This is VERY short so not really for high torque operation either and may even be uncomfortable if your hand is big.

I'm looking at these 'slim' jaws wagering how long it'd be before i snapped them.
Probably not long.

I actually bought a set of Grip-On pliers after reading this Wirecutter article that rated them #1. [nytimes.com] I can tell you first hand that they are great Spanish-made locking pliers. In fact, I believe they're so good that Snap-On rebrands the Grip-Ons as their own, and so does Proto. I bought some of the Spanish-made Protos from Zoro with a coupon and that's probably your best way to get Grip-On quality at the least expensive price.

I just used a pair like these last month to put the wheels on my grill.

No clearance for any normal open-end wrench.

You're right. I thought these were pieces of crap until I realized that they would be great for bike jam nuts. Perfect for wherever you would need to tighten a bolt between 2 objects.

Check out THESE [amazon.com] I will never not have these in my toolbox. In fact for awhile I misplaced my diagonal cutters from the same series so now I have two of them. The compound action gives you crazy strong hold and lets you cut through things that would just not be possible at least with my hand strength.
