Citi Custom Cash 5% credit card: new, better offer to earn $300 after $1000 spend available online

For those unaware, the Citi Custom Cash is a relatively new card that gives 5% back on up to $500 of spending each billing cycle in the category you spend in most (e.g. groceries, dining, gas). No having to figure out what the current quarter's bonus category is to get 5% back.
Previously the only offer available online for this card was $200 on $750 of spending in the first 3 months. You can browse that thread for more info and comments about the card. (There was a $300 offer available in Citi branches, but those are only found in major US cities.)
To find this offer, simply log in to Credit Karma and browse suggested credit card offers and you should see it. Alternatively, you can find a direct link on this reddit thread. I'm not posting the direct link itself as I'm assuming SD will mangle the URL.

What other benefits does the BCP give you?
I only have the BCE.
You would have to spend $1667 just to break even on that $100 annual fee.
Whereas if you spend $500 every month for three months and another $167, you end up with $83.35 in your pockets.
The only gotcha with the Citi Custom Cash is that you can only spend $500 per statement cycle. Once you go over, everything is 1%.
If spending 500$ (groceries only), annually 6000$, 300$ cashback with this. But only 1% for rest.
But BCP will give 360$ cashback + 3% petrol + 6% streaming/other amex premium benefits like warranty/travel benefits, so still a better card than this even after 95$ fee, isn't it?

I have a BoA Customized Cash Rewards credit card that gives me 3% for gas.
I subscribe to AcornTV and BritBox so they are not eligible for streaming.
I have the US Bank Cash+ 5% if I needed streaming.
I am not sure what warranty and travel benefits come with the BCP.
As it is, travel is not a high priority for me anyway.

I said more generic but looks like you will not maximize all benefits of BCP.
Really not bad for a grocery card.. I may need to cancel Amex Blue Cash Preferred with 6% and $100 annual fee.
For me, dumping BCP is a clear choice, especially since the 6% is capped at the first $6000/year. Even if you max out your 6K spend, that gets you $265 after the annual fee, versus a fee-free $300 here.
You could possibly make up the $35 difference spending a lot on gas and streaming (which have a 1% and 4% margin over an everyday 2% baseline) but you'd have to spend a lot in those categories, IMO.
Combine that with a least one (or possibly even two) rotating-5% cards like Discover/Chase Freedom which cover groceries and/or gas at 5% for a lot of the year, the margin of BCP's 6% rate is way too slim for me to keep using it anymore. It's way more advantageous for me to have on hand a fee-free flexible 5% to use on groceries on the quarters that isn't covered by a rotating-category card (AND I can use this for another category, like Travel, in the quarters that Groceries is covered by another 5% card).
I tried again with chat this time and they will not change the $200 spend $750 to $300 spend
$1000. The card has not even came yet but they will not budge. Oh well.
Regardless of what Approval Odds you are given, it is the credit card issuer that has to actually approve you. Pre-approval on Creditkarma does not mean you are pre-approved from the card issuer.

Take it from me, calling their reconsideration line is a complete waste of time. Wait a couple of months and get pre-approved at Creditkarma.
Really? I thought the odd comment was he knew exactly how his mom uses her credit card and when she switches for what purchases. Typically, you would have to live with someone and go with them to buy groceries and gas to know that. If you live with your mom, isn't the first question does she buy your groceries for you?
This contradicts with what I found online in other card forums in which the only card that couldn't be converted directly is the Double Cash.
Darn, and that was going to be my plan! Most of the spending on my Double Cash card is grocery stores....I have the Costco Citi card for gas, restaurants, and such. I don't really want to open another account/have a third citi card, what to do...

I meant to say BCP Extended warranty, car rental damage coverage kind of features are not available in citi custom cash.
I haven't rented a car in so long. I will have to check my insurance policy when I do.
