He probably bought the mini because it was all he really needed... But now he has to buy the larger one because the deal is too good to pass up!
originally i wanted the classic but it was $699.. so i waited. then the mini was so cheap at $250.. i figure, it was decent enough to try and if i didn't like it..i could always sell it for about $250..so no real loss. Then this crazy deal for the classic at $450?? yeah, i couldn't resist.. i mean i definitely don't need both.. but why not..

Local Lowe's showed 2 in stock. Drove down to see if they would price match and to pick 1 up.
They had 24hr Sale Price $374.47 + tax. This is in Princeton NJ. Happy Holidays to me.

RhizzlebopIs the charcoal basket an accessory I should get ASAP? What's it's purpose and should you not use it till you have that

The short answer is yes but you can use the Joe without the charcoal basket which is an accessory. You load the charcoal inside the basket instead of the firebox. After the unit cools down, you can lift up the entire basket with the remaining charcoal and all the ashes will fall through the basket into the firebox. You can then get the ashes through the bottom grates into the collection tray. Cleanup is a breeze. Kamado Joe KJ-MCC23 Classic Joe Charcoal Basket, Chrome. It is about ~$96 from AMZN. Hope this helps.

Thanks. On my old Akorn, I just used something to swirl the charcoal to let the loose stuff fall out.

I see some of these baskets have a divider. I could see that being useful for indirect t heat. Does a divider basket need to be used along with a heat deflector or no?

I'm also looking at auto temp controllers but wondering if it's too gadgety than useful.

The thermoworks model is only 70 bucks not sure it has all the features of the flame boss 400.

I ordered it last and was looking again this morn and got that same honey offer. I cancelled last night's order and reordered!

Should come to $420 after tax, 5% cash back from Discover and the Honey deal. Couldn't pass that up!!

Then I went and snagged the $19.97 cover Lowe's this morning.

Great deal!!
Do you have a link for the 19.97 cover?

My unit came with the heat deflectors and a couple of cleanup tools. No, you don't need the basket to use the heat deflectors which should be placed on the Joe's "Divide and Conquer" system. The divider in the basket is to save on charcoal usage if you plan to smoke something that does not take up the entire cooking area. That said, everything I have smoked has taken up the entire cooking grates which is barely big enough for ~9 lb (~13 lb before trimming) brisket for example. BTW you may want to check out the ThermoPro TP08S <$40 from AMZN.

I bought the Jr a few mos back, too. How did you fit the full brisket on your Jr?
I separated the fat cap, rolled the flat brisket, and tied it with a cotton twine so it was folded in the jr. I smoked it for 6 hours and cooked it in the oven overnight. 13 pounds of USDA prime $4.29/lb from Costco.
Alternatively, you can split the flat in half, stack the three of them up and flip/change positions while you smoke them to get an even smoke ring on all sides. That is how I smoked three packs of beef short ribs(3 bones, 3-4 pounds each piece).

My brother has been using the Classic I for years and when I told him I finally pulled the trigger he told me the same thing. Kick Ash Basket is his favorite accessory

Just got shipping confirmation and...crap... it's shipped by "Estes Forwarding Worldwide" - Googling reviews on this company doesn't give me good assurance that this will go over too well.

*sigh*

I'm wondering if I should try to cancel and then pricematch to Lowes :T

Also just saw the frickin Honey offer pop-up when I went back to view the grill at Walmart.... *facepalm*

Wow, looks amazing! Have you tried using the rib rack technique for smoking whole packers?

I just inquired with Lowes through chat on PMing to Walmart and this was their response:

"Thank you very much for the information, let me tell you I was checking and at the moment we do not offer price match for this item, price promise could not be combined with other discounts and since the item from Walmart is on sale, stated as "reduced price" we could not price match."
