Too bad the 980 is so much slower than the previous model, the 970. I'd kill to get the 970 new for 120.
There's plenty of other SSD's at this price point, that are faster. Samsung removed some chips to make it slower, so that there would be a bigger gap till the 980 pro, etc.
It's the same marketing gimmick that johnny walker did with the old gold (18yo) to blue... and then they changed it to new gold (12yo), added platinum (18yo) and then blue. You now pay $100-120 for something that used to cost you $70 per 750ml bottle, and yet the platinum is still not as good as the old gold. With the old gold, there wasn't a big reason to buy blue, at a difference of almost 3x the price.
That johnny walker marking gimmick is essentially what Samsung did. However, it could possibly have also been influenced by the chip shortage. They kept them in the pro, etc
Hands down the best analogy I've ever read on Slickdeals. I nominate you to explain any future deals in alcohol analogies, something we can all easily "digest."

Seems like pretty much every deal is matched by the competitors this year. Nothing stands out as of yet enough to make this year a great BF so far either. A $75 1tb pcie from MSI with a horrible rebate company, a retail price plus gift card anti price match tactic, and fake ads that are superceded by proceeding ads.
TCB had 13% cashback for dell. Hawny has $19.99 cash back. Raku10 has 12% CB. Pick your poison I guess.
On top of that, 5% cash back if you pay by paypal using Chase Freedom card.

just like how SLC has faded away for MLC a few years back, MLC has faded away for TLC. it doesn't mean that it's bad. modern day TLC are still better than SLC from a decade ago.
