I saw them on Amazon and bought one, but this was right when the new iPhone 13 came out and Apple patched the old way that RSIMs used to unlock, rendering them useless (at least the ones I had). Even though the Amazon listing said it'd been updated, I apparently got old stock. Not wanting to keep throwing away money and/or wasting time with returns, I just bought the one on the eBay listing and figured if it worked that'd be awesome, if not I'd stick it in a drawer in case it started working again in the future. Low and behold, it worked great! When finding an ICCID to put in, the website I use has two different options; one if the phone is currently locked to AT&T (I used this ICCID for the iPhone SE I had locked to Cricket), and one if it's locked to any other carrier. All I can say is that it worked for me, and isn't as fragile as the little sticker things that you'd stick on or wrap around your sim.
I have heard that the unlock may not survive an iOS update, but my experience has been that it does. I have an iPhone 8 Plus that I've been using since August of last year; unlocked right away using an RSIM and it's gone through multiple updates in that time. No issues at all. Now, what will DEFINITELY cause it to relock is if you do a factory reset, so try to avoid that if possible.
I woulda much rather have gotten it from someone that didn't lose a ton in ebay/paypal fees (let alone that it woulda been half the price for me)

I assume that's not the case with apple, although I have no problem flashing to an unlocked firmware (carrier unlocked firmware....i don't mean sim locked).
And jailbreaking it, would probably kill the security supremacy of apple (the only reason I'm trying out non-android, for the first time in >12yrs)
and BB has never asked (me) for any CC
they do ask for ID/DL which is reqd by law I think now

THIS ^^^^
just walk in the store like a guest, ask for trade in, if they ask if you have an account - say no - get the physical GC and walk away
that being said - if they REALLY wanted to come after you, for infringing whatever fine print is out there, they do have your DL, so they could but this has never been reported
seems like free $110 x 2 worth a try, at worse I would waste 30 mins at pick up & return, at best I shall make $220
it helps that BB and wally are right opposite each other here :-P

There's an easy way to see what kind of unlock your phone has. If you have the RSIM in and everything's working the way it should, go to Settings-General-About and see what it says under Carrier Restrictions. If it says it's restricted, then the RSIM is actively fooling the phone into thinking the sim that's installed is from the carrier it's locked to; you can't remove the RSIM and keep using the "wrong" sim with your phone. If it says No SIM restrictions, then you should be able to remove the RSIM and put just the regular sim in. The white sim I use to unlock isn't a fancy RSIM (though it's often called an RSIM because it's a bit of a generic term now), it can only do a basic ICCID unlock. But that's the best type of unlock, it's the one that makes the phone think it's truly unlocked and accept any type of sim.
In other words, assuming you can do the ICCID unlock (which was definitely possible as of yesterday morning), you'll have no problem doing exactly what you want. But if Apple patches something and future unlocks are only possible via keeping the RSIM installed over the actual sim then no, you don't want to keep transferring it between phones.
also which carrier did you pick when asked during the trade in process ?
