I asked one of my doctors maybe a couple years ago about zinc and he said most otc stuff doesn't work bc it's not strong enough at the recommended dose to have a chance at doing what many people are taking it for - prevent or reduce an imminent cold.

I wrote down two things he told me about taking it:
1. Make sure whatever form you take it in doesn't combine it with citric acid (can't remember why)
2. 75-85mg of zinc at FIRST sign of cold.

I've followed this a few times and obviously just anecdotal but it has seemed to work for me more often than not. Enough that I think it probably works and will continue to do it.

I personally take a much lower dose of zinc (plus magnesium) daily, but when I suspect a cold might be forming I boost my zinc to hit the target mg mentioned above for a couple/few days. You would NOT want to take that higher dose for more than a few days from what I've read.

Edit: just noticed these chewables have citric acid! Maybe someone can do the legwork on why that is or isn't a big deal when combined w/zinc.

Edit 2: ok, did it myself bc curious:

"Zinc lozenges appear to influence the common cold through the release of free zinc ions into the oro-pharyngeal region. However, zinc ions can bind tightly to various chemical complexes in such a way that little or no free zinc ions are released. Previously zinc lozenges containing citric acid were shown to be ineffective in treating colds because citric acid binds zinc ions very tightly and no free zinc is released."

Carrots come in all different kinds of colors. It wasn't until recently due to mass production for supermarkets that the color orange was standardized for carrots.

Is Elderberry really the "wonderfruit" people make it out to be?

I remember the dude from American Pie ate a handful of these poisoning himself. Had to pull over a few times on the 405 to take a dump on his way to set.

On this, one ingredient says "color (Black Carrot Concentrate)." Where on Earth do Black carrot grow or exist? Or I am missing something

I am skeptical that carrot naturally comes in different colors other than orange when ripe

Their orange color is based on an attempt to maximize their vitamin content (beta carotene specifically). The other colors aren't unripe/etc, they just don't have the same vitamin makeup.

I use the Equate ones from Walmart. Similar to Zicam, works great. Knowing that citric acid could have a detrimental effect defeats the purpose of this deal.
