DWS779 is on sale with free stand and Lowes. Didn't see this advertised anywhere but online it says free gift and when you add to cart the miter saw stand is added. Saw is on sale elsewhere for $399 by itself but seem like a good deal with stand. It's been cheaper in the past but haven't seen many deals this year.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-1...1000145735

Update - for those who may only need the saw, Home Depot says they will have it for $299. This is what a customer service rep told me when I asked if they would price match Lowes, which at least this rep wouldn't do.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Bought this last year on BF - what a great saw! I recommend doing the laser light upgrade:

https://www.mmtoolparts.com/store...kit-dewalt
Just throwing this out there... bought this same deal last year for $379... and it made me leave Dewalt for good.

I had owned a DWS779 for many years, and it was an amazing SCMS. And last year when I seen the sale, I jumped on it.

Little did I know how much Dewalt had cheapened the saw from the 779 of the past. Many of the aspects that made it a "DWS780 Without the Light" were gone. So many things that made it great...

(Copy/paste to save time)
1. Saw now only cuts 13.75" wide not 16" as advertised (huge change)
2. Kerf plate is no longer split and cannot be adjusted
3. They removed a few bevel stops.
4. There is no more slide lock lever.
5. The motor itself bogs down quickly compared to the older versions. This is straining the motor, and in turn, shortening it's life span.

They took a once amazing saw that was the best value in SCMS, and turned it into a Yellow Craftsman Sliding Compound Miter Saw.

So be forewarned... this will be more of a DWS778.9. And it is not a very good deal at this price, for this saw.

Look into the Makita and Bosch. I love the Bosch now, and find it better than the DWS780. (I only with the Newer Cordless Bosch had the option of being battery powered, and corded. I'd have bought that one instead if it came with both options.)
This will get down voted but I have TWO of these as well as a comparable Metabo (I run a woodshop) and I would use the Metabo over my 779s every time. I have DeWalt everything in the shop but the 779s are underwhelming IMO.

Piggy backing off rickyb0bby the sliding mechanism takes up a significantly smaller footprint on the Metabo. The laser feature is worthless outdoors but indoors it's a nice feature. Dust collection was a bit easier to hook up but again that's a small thing. The DeWalt is a beast but it is a little too powerful. The Metabo has a smoother operation. Also there are little plastic pieces on the 779 behind the blade. I'm not sure what they do but they all broke/shattered within a week and we had to remove the remains. Saw works fine without them though. I do more work with hardwoods than construction lumber fyi. I would have never bought the Metabo if it wasn't for a Slickdeal this summer but I am very glad I did. Both saws work just fine.

Lastly on the footprint. If this is for a small garage shop the smaller footprint is so much better on the Metabo I would not want the 779 in a small shop.
For a small space working with hardwood, would you consider a lever chop saw instead of sliding? Aside from being cheaper, they all seem to be much smaller

I own the Hitachi version of C12RSH, the original, not version 2. I don't have the DeWalt 779, but I researched it extensively. The advantage of the C12RSH over 779 is adjustability. It has independent left and right fences so that you can adjust them to be co-planer if necessary. The DeWalt fence is 1 piece and you are at the mercy of it to be co-planer coming out of the factory. There are micro adjustment knobs for miter as well as bevel angles after you made macro adjustments. This feature was taken away in version 2. As for performance, I am really impressed. Plenty of power. The factory blade is very good. I usually change factory blade immediately, but this one gave me no reason to. I don't have a Dewalt to compare performance to, but I can't imagine Dewalt is any better.
Just adding another vote for the Metabo. Been looking at getting a 12" sliding miter saw for my small shop for a long time, and been going between the Metabo and the Dewalt 779 with stand BF deal. Like others have said, it seems like they really cheapened the 779 so it's not the saw it used to be. The Metabo version 2 doesn't have the nice micro adjustments and other nice features of the Hitachi or the version 1 Metabo.

At $350 regular price now for Metabo...I think this is the better deal, especially with front rails for space saving for a small shop. I do also like the ergonomics of a vertical handle since I tend to use the saw both right & left handed depending on where the cut is.

The only issue I've seen is that in Lowes stores, the floor model of the Metabo is extremely sticky on the rails. Anyone have any similar experience owning one?

Thanks. Been looking for a good deal on sliding miter saw. Just not sure if I should have gone with Amazon for $400 or Lowes for $450 because of the stand. But went with Lowes anyway.

I recall seeing someone mentioning in another post that since COVID, stores spray disinfectant constantly on display models. Therefore a lot of tools on display have rust spots. Perhaps that is the cause of the sticky rails? I don't have that issue with my saw. I make cuts on my driveway and always clean my saws with a jobsite blower before storing them back in the garage.

Can this be hacked? Can I return the stand for $$? I want the saw but really don't need the stand.

I purchased this saw last year. It's a great saw. But my buddy suggested I check out his Hercules saw from harbor freight for $299 and it was superior in nearly every way. I returned the Dewalt and bout the Hercules with heavy duty stand for under $450.
I'm tempting on the Hercules too, $335 on sale right now

You won't be sorry. It's a superior saw. The locking mechanisms are all tighter. The Dewalt had a little wiggle when locking in the tabs for an angled cut. The Hercules has no play whatsoever.

I'm so torn between the DeWalt, Metabo, and Hercules. My biggest worry with the Hercules are all the reviews about motor dying in first year. I'm a weekend dyi-er, but am upgrading because I want much more precision and a bit more width/height with my cuts.

Which reviews are those? You sure it's for the 12" model? I looked on the HF website and it has 1800 reviews and only 4 negative ones.

I just picked up the Hercules. It does only come with 90 day warranty, but was able to purchase 2 year warranty for $75. Plus, still returnable within the 90 days for full refund.
