Note that this is 4th gen, the latest with built-in wifi.
Apparently, August matched Amazon for the deadbolt on their website, for both colors. But do not bother: they have a code that takes 30% off of MSRP (for everything I have tried). Just enter at VIP30 checkout.
Looks like it was there for a long time but never made it to SD.

- Takes sometimes up to 5 minutes for geo location to trigger unlocking
- Tapping the "unlock" or "lock" color often results in a phantom click that requires you to have to do it a second time.
- Might be isolated to me but some of my guests can no longer use their august app on their iPhones.
- App appears to rarely get updated or improved
- Sometimes the no jam feature does not work requiring me to have to re-calibrate the device so my daughter doesn't destroy the door casing.

- Often difficult to get connect to respond to setting changes sometimes
- Wifi to Bluetooth swapping is slow
The only thing i can rely on is the scheduling works like a charm and the auto-lock helps keep the door locked as people come and go so I never have to think about it.
I have a very blanketed WiFi area for the device and it shows a strong connection in the signal readings. It's been like this since day one. 0 issues have ever been fixed. I've seen others report some of these and nothing has ever been done to fix anything.
I don't think I can take a chance on this deal given the endless hassle this lock has given me. I'd suggest to others to steer clear for something else that is more reliable.

Gotcha. I've never had much issue with batteries lasting with my 3rd gen. I think you need to make sure to to re-calibrate after swapping batteries though or you get weird issues with the door sense feature not working or the lock not locking properly.
I personally would steer far from random locks such as the one linked, not only from a cybersecurity perspective, but also from a physical security perspective. Every single one of those "features" / unlocking methods are just another potential vulnerable point of entry waiting to happen.
Although I should add that this was indeed one annoying aspect of the keypad I failed to mention before - if this happens, you MUST call August support to get a master factory reset combo for the keypad, based upon the serial number I'm assuming (for good security reasons I might add). When you're setting up the keypad, be patient and let the setup finish, or you may end up with the app being unable to link the keypad to your account until you call them to get a factory reset combo!
A few things I didn't mention in my previous post:
- I tweaked the deadbolt's positioning in my door to be absolutely perfectly lined up. This is necessary with ANY smart lock! Otherwise, it'll at the very least drain the battery very quickly (if it barely locks / has a lot of extra resistance in order to fully go into the locked position), or at the worst not work at all / jam up / whatever. Even without "smart" lock products, this is something I would do anyway.
- I have quite a robust network at home. Router and AP's are Ubiquiti, with separate AP's on each floor, and my network is further segmented by VLANs as well (for security and performance). With that said, I never have a problem with connectivity of the lock, and a set of fresh batteries tend to last 2-3 months. I would say the lock auto-locks anywhere from 10-20 times a day. Mostly because of a 2 year old toddler who loves to twist the lock back and forth over and over, lol, and often leaves it in the unlocked position.
- I've been a network and systems admin for about 10 years (explaining why my home network is overkill), and just recently decided to finally go back to school to finish up my bachelor's degree to broaden my horizons. Not that the degree means anything (in my opinion, relative to real world experience), but my degree was in Computer and Network Security (i.e. Cybersecurity) with a concentration in Digital Forensics. Stay away from unknown security products people, especially those that are literally the keys to your physical kingdom. Yes, there are plenty of breaches, vulnerabilities, general stupidity found even in established products (thus why I segregate them to begin with), but I even further wouldn't take the risk with random "smart" home security products - even more so where there are multiple points of (physical) entry that may have been poorly implemented (NFC, FP, etc).
