This isn't new, but you have to read the comments of other deals to find it - to me, the whole point of Slickdeals is to make crystal clear how to score a really great price. Slickdealer Riiot was the first to comment on this in the existing WD 850 deal post. If this info has value to you, give Riiot, not me, credit - click on following link, click on Riiot's name to the left, give reputation.

Take an old storage device you don't care about to Best Buy, use the recycling offer (second link) to get 15% off on the WD SN850 when you pick it up. The SN850 is already on Black Friday offer for $150 to that takes the price down to $127.50 plus tax. Folks have been successful turning in old thumbdrives, but you could take in an old broken 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, etc.

This isn't for everyone - it's for those who really need/want a great deal.

Warning, Best Buy's process for this is reportedly really slow, many stores don't seem to know about it and will seek to deflect, to avoid, etc. Take in a copy of the recycling offer or have it ready to show them on your phone, etc. You will need to be persistent and it will be time consuming. But the prize is a 1TB top-of-the-line NVME SSD for $127.50 (plus tax), which, yes, does work for PS5.

You can do this with other WD/SanDisk SSDs, a couple sample links below.

Here's the correct link to the Best Buy offer page for the 15% off WD/Sandisk storage: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/recy...8281022996

Just FYI, none of the Best Buy employees I encountered knew about this promotion, not even the managers. This promotion comes up under Trade-In > Landlines and other in their recycling program.

They let me turn in two dead hard drives for SSD's, but they had to do it on separate tickets. YMMV, GL!

Does the 15% auto populate and apply automatically?

Fixed, I think... The Slickdeals editor likes running links together.

Has to be done in-store.

The manager can manually override. As it states clearly on the coupon: "Markdowns taken from current prices."

A 15% coupon prints out (with unique barcode) after you do the recycling trade-in. They scan it afterward, may require manager override.

Thank you. I guess they brush me off since they never heard of the promo and didn't know how to do it. Will try again.

They've never heard of it, it's a manual process, and it's Black Friday week. You can imagine how they would view it as a PITA, because, from their standpoint, it is. But the fault lies not with you but with Best Buy for setting up a program without sufficient automation.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but don't you have to pay online for pickup in store? How are you getting the 15% discount applied after you already paid for it online?

You can't buy it online, the transaction has to be done instore.

I got lucky - the lady knew about the promo and gave me two coupons in like 3 min. Now I need to figure out what ssd/hdd I need to buy.

Silly question but can I order it online, visit the store to recycle, then have them price adjust for the 15% so I don't end up going to a store without the SN850?

Also can we recycle USB thumb drives?

I used the WD coupon on the WD 14TB deal to score it at a really good price - its exactly as people have said, staffers don't know about this, so they call a manager over, and you're kind of at their mercy. I had purchased it for like $200, then came in with the coupon on my phone asking them to honor the coupon. I usually just try to be nice and they had to reprocess my transaction but eventually honored the price after giving them a dead ssd. It sucks but basically, you're kind of at their mercy on whether or not they'll actually do the deal. May want to make sure to have the coupon available on your phone handy to show them its from their website
