As for the soft-locks, yes I heard about that, but how often does this really happen?
Long story short, if you don't like the games, that's fair. But no, they're not garbage and $50 is not a ripoff. Calm down.
It's full of bugs. There are people speedrunning the game in an hour exploiting the bugs in the game.
Compared to other remakes, it seriously lacks features. The excuse they used was that they were faithful remakes. But when you actually play the games, they throw in characters from later generations which isn't faithful at all. What Nintendo isn't telling you is that these games were actually developed by a third party, not one of the two GameFreak dev teams that are usually involved in mainline releases. This is likely because those devs are likely working on Legends Arceus and Gen 9.
The graphics are pathetic compared to the 15yo NDS games they're remaking. The chibi overworld style is atrocious considering what the Let's Go series accomplished 3 years ago.
That's not to say you can't enjoy these games. But they definitely aren't worth more than $40.

Now as an adult, I can't replicate the same feeling because not only these games are already too long but responsibilities are more than ever.
Grinding is not fun and this game has it. Let go eevee snd pikachu are more pleasant but feel semi hollow too.

My 11 year old loves Pokemon, collects the cards, and we even still play Pokemon Go together. I was planning to buy either Sword or Shield for him for Xmas but now I'm wondering if it would be better to get him this?
Got him Let's Go Eevee last year and he enjoyed it but lost interest relatively quickly.
He wants another game for christmas but he said the Pearl and Diamond are like Zelda Link's awakening, is that a bad thing?
So help this clueless dad out, do I buy him Pearl (or Diamond, if so which one) or offer something else but I don't think he wants anything else.
