Picking a Adapter/Cable for new 27" monitor

279 38 November 29, 2021 at 06:13 AM
I bought an Acer KW272U monitor from Walmart the other day to serve as my secondary monitor (at least that is my plan at the moment). This monitor has a DisplayPort and 2 HDMI ports. My graphics card is a 2060 Super (1 HDMI, 2 DisplayPort, USB c and DVI). My main monitor (Acer V277U) is connected to the HDMI port on my graphics card.

I have read (at least on the Amazon equivalent model KA272U) of people having wake from sleep issues when connected to DisplayPort on the monitor. Since I have to buy a cable/adapter anyway (I only have HDMI cables currently) I would rather stay away from connecting to the DP port on (both of) the monitor. So my options are for the GPU end to be USB c or DisplayPort if I want to take advantage of the full 1440p. When I looked on Amazon, it seems like the USB c (and especially DisplayPort) to HDMI cables were rated such that they would not reach the full resolution & refresh rate of 1440p @ 75Hz (at least if I am reading right).

Can I convert USB c or DisplayPort to HDMI and still achieve 1440p @ 75Hz?

I would not use sleep to tell the truth I never have just let the monitor turn off. With a SSD the drive does not turn off anyways.

I do hibernate when I want to turn it off, problem solved.

So it looks like I was reading the reviews wrong. I was thinking it was when the monitor "goes to sleep" (if that even is a thing, and is different from the monitor turning off after 15 minutes or whatever) but it looks like it is when the computer goes to sleep (like I believe you are saying). I don't even have my desktop go to sleep, so this is not going to be an issue.

Thanks for the quick response. Repped!
