Good phone. Being in bed with AT&T? Not so good

WARNING PSA

Having gone through a literal 6 hour ordeal in my local Walmart store...these are not always shipped properly activated when purchased online. My first order went absolutely fine, but the second turned into a nightmare (AT&T suspended the line after a day, citing a point-of-purchase error). The local store should be able to fix it, however it's not a guarantee (in my case they returned the phone but couldn't resell it to me because their POS wouldn't scan it - wound up having to sell me a new phone from in-store). And because the e-receipt given to you by Walmart doesn't include the IMEI/SN of the phone you won't be able to get it fixed by AT&T.

Please include all of the requirements for this deal in the post. You need to activate a number and pay &50 for a month. So the total is higher than what you have in the title.
Wrong....It was $178.50 with taxes out the door. There was no activation required. No matter deal is dead now I see.

I didn't open the box, but my unlock request was denied. I wonder why the requests are approved for some people. I bought it for my mother, who uses Red Pocket on AT&T, so I hope the locked phone will work with her SIM card.
It will work fine with redpocket. I have used redpocket with locked at&t phones but I didn't get updates from my at&t locked Motorola phone. I think you will get updates over wifi fine though because it is an iphone.

I would say try again with AT&T. My iPhone 13s got approved in 2 mins and I had back to back requests sent. Maybe you got unlucky

You don't have to be in ATT network to unlock. you can use ATT MVNO on this phone and get it unlocked after 6 month.
At least for iPhone on Red Pocket, it doesn't work to unlock iPhones with the portal.

I purchase two Android ATT Prepaid phones, and after 6 months on Red Pocket, I was able to unlock on the portal. It works for Android phones, but I have not had any luck with iPhones.

I will try call AT&T directly, and see if they would be willing to unlock.

Walmart doesn't even sell PREPAID AT&T iPhone 13 though. The iPhone 13 can run both prepaid or postpaid but it isn't a "prepaid" phone. Postpaid rules are more lenient because iPhone 13 cost big bucks and prepaid phones tend to be more budget phones so they want stricter rules for prepaid. I went to Walmart today and the most expensive iPhone in the PREPAID AT&T case display was the iPhone SE. Nothing more expensive that that. With other MVNO, they do have more expensive iPhones but they have very strict unlocking rules.

An expensive iphone 13 that was fully paid will be unlocked much easier than a cheap budget prepaid iPhone SE 2020…. Reasoning? Sell the prepaid phones cheap and make the profit from the monthly service…. With the expensive iphone 13, they already made a big profit so as long as the phone is paid off, they will unlock it.

AT&T unlock requirements for prepaid and postpaid.

I am attempting to unlock a prepaid AT&T Alcatel flip phone that I bought today for a senior but I was denied with "device isn't an AT&T device". Maybe the device hasn't been inputted in their system? I will wait 24 hours and try again but I had my doubts before I even bought it. Not a big deal because this phone will use red pocket.

I bought the iPhone 13 from the T-Mobile deal @ BB and inserted an inactive sim to unlock it from AT&T. Sorry for not making it clear

Completely different company as you bought a postpaid t-mobile. I bought a locked t-mobile Samsung a71 5G and unlocked it without their service through Facebook chat rep… The rules are quite different with prepaid AT&T in 2021… I unlocked prepaid AT&T on day 1 many years ago from Nokia window phones (8 years ago) to the iPhone 6 (probably postpaid phone) but I haven't tried recently with prepaid but there has been tons of reports all over complaining about how people can't do it anymore with PREPAID. I unlocked a bunch of postpaid att phones (Motorola and iPhones) and just last week. Last week was actually a prepaid iPhone that I purchased last year on eBay and I unlocked as it fulfilled the unlock requirements.

I am gonna try tomorrow night with this prepaid AT&T flip phone and I hope it works but I doubt it.

*** I believe all postpaid iPhones that are fully paid off are unlockable on day 1. I don't think it matters if it is from att or T-Mobile.

This is from att site…. " Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You won't have to wait 60 days to unlock it.".

As late as today someone posted in the iPhone SE thread today about unlocking. I know someone was stating this wasn't possible yesterday but check the thread on people reporting success. I think someone also mentioned doing it without powering on. Maybe a case of YMMV but I typically try until I get a nice rep to unlock it for me. Have done this unlocking business quite a number of times with AT&T

My prepaid Alcatel is still in the box. I have never ever spoken to any AT&T rep ever in all my years of unlocking AT&T. Everything done with the portal quick and easy. I am gonna try the portal again tonight. If they deny me, so be it..... I am a RedPocket AT&T customer so not a big deal to be denied. If they deny me, I will try putting in a Tracfone T-Mobile sim in it before I turn it on and see if that connects. I doubt it will work. Lot of people insist not to turn on the phone with the supplied sim.

When i look on ebay for these Alcatel flip phones that are unlocked, they are all used which makes me think they the required months to unlock. If I saw "new open box" ATT Alcatel flip phones that are unlocked, I would feel more confident that it could be done but I don't see any on ebay.

Ordered yesterday right before the price changed. Picked and requested unlock around 1pm. Unlock denied in about couple hours.

The guy that handed me the phone at Walmart mentioned he activated the phone. Not sure if this is why the unlock get denied.

Walmart canceled my order for no legitimate reason and then jacked up the price.

What was the reasoning for denying? Did it say it needed the required months or the device isn't an at&t device reason?

Current status - Denied
We can't unlock this device because it hasn't been active for at least six months of paid service.
