Having gone through a literal 6 hour ordeal in my local Walmart store...these are not always shipped properly activated when purchased online. My first order went absolutely fine, but the second turned into a nightmare (AT&T suspended the line after a day, citing a point-of-purchase error). The local store should be able to fix it, however it's not a guarantee (in my case they returned the phone but couldn't resell it to me because their POS wouldn't scan it - wound up having to sell me a new phone from in-store). And because the e-receipt given to you by Walmart doesn't include the IMEI/SN of the phone you won't be able to get it fixed by AT&T.

I purchase two Android ATT Prepaid phones, and after 6 months on Red Pocket, I was able to unlock on the portal. It works for Android phones, but I have not had any luck with iPhones.
I will try call AT&T directly, and see if they would be willing to unlock.
An expensive iphone 13 that was fully paid will be unlocked much easier than a cheap budget prepaid iPhone SE 2020…. Reasoning? Sell the prepaid phones cheap and make the profit from the monthly service…. With the expensive iphone 13, they already made a big profit so as long as the phone is paid off, they will unlock it.
AT&T unlock requirements for prepaid and postpaid.
I am attempting to unlock a prepaid AT&T Alcatel flip phone that I bought today for a senior but I was denied with "device isn't an AT&T device". Maybe the device hasn't been inputted in their system? I will wait 24 hours and try again but I had my doubts before I even bought it. Not a big deal because this phone will use red pocket.

I am gonna try tomorrow night with this prepaid AT&T flip phone and I hope it works but I doubt it.
*** I believe all postpaid iPhones that are fully paid off are unlockable on day 1. I don't think it matters if it is from att or T-Mobile.
This is from att site…. " Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You won't have to wait 60 days to unlock it.".

When i look on ebay for these Alcatel flip phones that are unlocked, they are all used which makes me think they the required months to unlock. If I saw "new open box" ATT Alcatel flip phones that are unlocked, I would feel more confident that it could be done but I don't see any on ebay.
The guy that handed me the phone at Walmart mentioned he activated the phone. Not sure if this is why the unlock get denied.

We can't unlock this device because it hasn't been active for at least six months of paid service.
