The problem with cheap laptops is they are built like crap - the Gateway has a crappy screen, creaky plastic body, sucky trackpad etc. But certainly once you add the parts to the NUC you're at $700 and can get a decent laptop.
I'm leaning that way myself since I'm going to be traveling a lot.
Only 1 issue. The fans get dirty and become very noisy after a while. It's a pain in the ass to clean.
The noise is enough of a deal breaker for me.
Other than that, these units have functioned perfectly.

This is a nice CPU improvement on the 10th gen and the graphics are like 3X faster.
