What your saying probably makes sense for a blu ray that is actually 4k, but what about older blu ray movies that are not 4k? I believe that's what the salesman was referring to.
Well that's what you are talking about, a BD disc("not 4k") gets "upscaled" to 4K.

An "actual 4K" disc(UHD) doesn't get upscaled, as a matter of fact it gets "downscaled" through tone mapping so your display can process it.

With UHD(4K) disc the 420 processes HDR better than any player in that price range also.

Unfortunately most BB employees are not very knowledgeable so their advice is very questionable!
Why I'm not that surprised they would say that!

I tend to think with older Blu-ray discs the actual difference in PQ will be marginal on the A8H. With that said this is a cheap update for the time being before next-gen players hit the market.

In regards to BB employers I've dealt with both, some knowledgable and some not, similar to car salesman. This isn't rocket science and nontechnical opinions run rampant.

I have a LG oled 65" tv & a 85" Sony X90CH both having dolby vision running a Oppo 203 player. I already have a large blu-ray collection & only double-dipping on improved transfers. I check blu-ray.com as a comparison site to see if the new formats are worthy of repurchasing.

I am curious...what specific panel are you watching these remastered discs on?

I dont think I have ever seen a remaster that wasnt at the very least brighter than the blu ray version of the same film

As for remasters...Apocalypse Now-Final Cut is phenomenal in both picture and sound
Normally I dont buy the remasters. But I had heard this one was good and it was $9.99 BF two years ago

Phenomenal picture and sound

Absolutely if I owned Blu-ray movies that were 4k. I tend to stream 4k movies and other general 4k content from Netflix, Prime, etc., rather than use a Blu-ray player. So if I'm playing older Blu-rays that are not 4k, not sure if the 420 player makes sense, though it is a cheap switch out.
The UB420 seems worth $150
I personally would not pay more than that though

On another note
4K discs video and sound will always be better than streaming

You are again " coming to own conclusions"
There is no way you would have data on "Most" BB employees
I know several that are very knowledgeable..even with brands that are dealer showroom items

But like I have said many many times
Opinions dont have to have any connection to facts

Yes completely my opinion.

We have around 14 and the one BB claims is their best and none are that knowledgeable but never have been anyways.

Even in here you rarely hear anyone say go to Best Buy for advice, usually it's some av forum! 🀷🏻 ♂️

Not surprised that store told him that! πŸ™„

If you consider BB knowledgeable that's your opinion and great for you πŸ‘πŸ»

I see...so absolutely no basis for the " most " description since you clearly have zero experience or statistical evidence for what you posted

Coming to your own conclusions again....nod

Based on my experience with several stores in the 3 states that I have lived in there are some good knowledgeable employees

One topic that comes to mind is a few employees have worked with me ( and demo'ed) products that have much better room correction( to my ears) than Audyssey XT32..in my search to upgrade from it

Huh…. "statistical evidence" ???!!!
hmmm you might want to look up the definition of OPINION πŸ€”

Talking to BB employee regarding XT32 in a demo room is your example of them being knowledgeable!!! ……. Ok then πŸ‘πŸ»

What's the difference between this and UB150? Is it just streaming apps? Also, maybe HD upconversion on the 420 and not the 150?
150 doesn't have apps and no HDR tone mapping

You made a statement about "MOST Best Buy employees"...when not having experience with most

You know the definition of most right...?LMAO

As for my demo(s) you dont know all the details, just a snippet actually
So you are yet again " coming to your own conclusions"

But again..Opinions dont have have to be connected to any facts
You consistently prove that...

Yes why do you ask since even you just said "Opinions dont have have to be connected to any facts" and prior asked for "statistical evidence" !!!! πŸ€” 🀷🏻 ♂️

No different than YOUR opinion that they are knowledgeable!!!! πŸ€” πŸ€ͺ

Would be silly to ask you for "statistical evidence" that ALL BB are knowledgeable!!! πŸ€ͺ

You are correct I don't know all the "details" I wasn't there so I have to go by apparently a "snippet" YOU provided!!

Actually it would be silly to say " Most BB employees" anything using the approximately 1% subset that you did

I didnt say most Best Buy employees are knowledgeable......LMFAO...
That would be silly since I dont have experience with the majority of their more than 1000 stores...right?...

Again.. you are." coming to your own conclusions"

And yes..you consistently prove that opinions dont have to have any connection to facts...Peace

Agreed on the $150, I wouldn't pay more than that and would be happy to buy an excellent condition open box.

I also agree with your comment about the audio and video quality in regard to 4k discs vs streaming. With that said, in many cases convenience rules.
