When connected via bluetooth, it is detected as a generic XInput compatible device and many games won't support it without manual configuration on a by-game basis. Typical tricks to fix it (manually selecting drivers, etc) don't work or won't stick.

This is strange, I use it via Bluetooth and have never had it not just work as an Xbox controller. Maybe it's because I have an external Bluetooth adapter, or I updated via the Xbox controller app?

1. Make sure your Bluetooth drivers is fully updated.
2. Make sure your Windows is fully updated. For Windows 10, go to Search, Check for Updates, Advanced Options, and make sure Receive Updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows. Search for updates and apply.
3. Check if Microsoft Store App is updated. (If you're like me, I would never update this thing).
4. Download Xbox Accessories from Microsoft Store App. It won't run unless your Windows and Store app is fully updated.
5. Plug in controller by USB, start the app, and let it update firmware. Don't unplug till it's done (or you'll brick it).
6. After firmware update, test the button inputs to see if it works in the app.
