Use these for my photography work. Just swap out for another whenever I fill one up. More cost effective than Apple storage prices
SSDs are not a good long term storage solution. The charge in the solid state transistors holding the data state will eventually fade.

Transfer your data to a new storage medium from these by the time 5 years has passed.

Also note the 3-2-1 method of backup. 3 copies of a file on 2 different types of storage with 1 being remote.
To piggyback off the previous reply, the study that determined that SSDs cannot hold data reliably for a couple years assumed worn-out drives under high temperature settings. Consumer SSDs under regular usage will last at least a decade or more. It is also layer dependent as multi-layered memory cells need more precise read and thus more sensitive to changes due to loss capacitance. So SLCs would be most reliable for archival storage purposes amongst all other SSDs.

For real archival storage you can try Archival Disc from Sony as these are guaranteed to store data up to 50 years. Cloud storage options are also okay if you are willing to pay every month but it gets expensive real fast if you got a couple terabytes.

Of course all of this is assuming you are okay with only keeping exactly one physical copy. For best results do 3-2-1 method as the other person has recommended.

I had to jump in this deal. Bought the exact same one from Amazon for around $150 several months ago.

Love it for playing PS4 games on my PS5. Warm when installing, cool when playing.

can i download and play Steam games off this? like not just store games on it, actually play them off it? my main SSD drive is near full and it's like two games I play causing it. i'd rather something easy like an external rather than having to install a new internal harddrive, especially since it's also my OS drive.

You can. Just move your individual games or even your whole games library to it. It doesn't load games as fast as internal NVME SSDs (maybe not even noticeable) but definitely faster than SATA SSDs & mech drives if you plug it in a USB 3.2 port.

Looks like you can. I do not play games, but found this by searching for 2 minutes on Google

Anyone try to price match with Best Buy?

EDIT: They wouldn't do it for me, stated NewEgg isn't an "authorized dealer". lol

That's weird, was it from bestbuy.com you tried ? It's been a while but I definitely price match New egg at the Best buy store. A few times actually never had a problem. I might just been lucky with the people working

Yes it was through the BestBuy.com website. You might be right, just the wrong CSR. Might try again.
