Microcenter had cheaper by $20 awhile ago but instore only so might be good for anyone who doesn't have Microcenter near them

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-...B08166SLDF Now $259.99 >$264.98 >$259.99

Here is a chart comparing the 2

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-5600X/3515vs4084

Roughly a 45% increase in performance overall, but other benefits as well.

Go 12400 don’t even consider a 5600x. It is a decent upgrade depending on what gpu u have/plan to get.

Here's a different benchmark, showing 34.2% improvement in single thread, 247% increase overall.

for gaming? Yes.

I have a 3600 with an overclock so basically a 3600x, and the 5600x is faster by 20%. To me personally 260$ isn’t worth it. Wait until the new cpu chips come out with 3D v cache. Those are supposed to be another 20% faster than the 5000 series

Huge upgrade.

Ha ha! I'm still rocking a Phenom II X6 1055T! Yeah time to upgrade but did I pick the worst time in recent memory to start a new build!

For those saying go Alderlake, if we already have an AM4 platform, we'd have to sell our MOBOs (and probably for a loss),then, go get an Alder Lake compatible MOBO with the new Alderlake chips.
i dunno why the 5600x isn't going down in price as much. it's a great chip, sure, but alder lake is actually a great competition and a better value proposition at this point.
Idk LGA 1700 mobos are more expensive on average than an am4 and not all 12th gen Intel CPUs come with a cooler (12400 does, but I believe the rest don't, at least at Microcenter). If you are gonna use the stock cooler, it kind of cuts into the price difference for the CPU.

Unless you're stuck on AM4, just get any Intel 12th gen instead. 12400 + B660-DDR4 should be way cheaper than this and perform better.

Way cheaper yes. Perform better? Well that's part of the fun of the silicon lottery

It's a slower chip. You're getting what you pay for. I'm buying future proofing. I should be set through this decade

I would surely doubt it. I was just reading about the B2 stepping yesterday, and the impression I got was its coming soon, but not as in this week.

Great deal. Alder Lake motherboards are pricier in general.
