You need to upload copy of their SSN card and another form of ID at the end for verification.

I don't have an account with them.

If my kids account invest in ETF and/or S&P500 stuff and earns interest, would that be counted towards our taxes when we file?

Isn't a 529 pretty worthless if your kid decides not to go to college...? College degrees are becoming more worthless yet more expensive every year.
Max out a Roth IRA first if you are able and not already doing so. The principal can be used for college and pulled out any time after 4 years. No penalty. No further taxes paid. Interest stays to accumulate. If you don't need it for school, continue saving for your retirement with that tool. Do that before considering a 529. I do not claim in any way to be a financial advisor.

here's my experience. created account on Wed 12/6. funded it from my fidelity account on thursday. got the $50 on Monday 12/11. pretty smooth so far. one minor quirk, maybe I'm just too used to it, but I like the web interface more than the youth app interface. For example, I couldn't fine the manage dividends link on the youth app if my life depended on it. on the web interface it's right there when you look at your positions.

If I want to make this a Christmas Gift, is there any way to do that without the child seeing in advance? If I wait until 12/25, offer could be ended, right? If I give a google voice phone # and use one of my other email addresses, how long do we have to download the app to still receive the credit?

That's not your income so you don't include it in your 1040.

Minors have to file taxes if their earned income is greater than $13,850 for tax year 2023. If your child only has unearned income, the threshold is $1,250 for tax year 2023.

I assume this isn't the same as a UTMA type account? Anybody know if there's any new sign up bonus? Planning to open an account for my kid.
