Its a 6-core Zen2+ with updated GPU and SMT over the 4000 series.

Good lower power chip that offers a good bang for the buck.

The only thing wrong with it based on a youtube review is the TN screen with bad viewing angles. He was recommending to spend $100 more for anything with better ips.
...otherwise seems like very good specs at this 399 price.

Yea, I got similar specs during the BF sale direct from HP for $20 less. The screen is really bad, haven't seen something this bad on a laptop in the past decade.

How is this compared to the HP Costco laptop for $380?

First time I saw Memorystock wrong. First HP I saw soldered. Other than Chromebooks which generally are soldered.

Here is a video of upgrading a ef series which this is:

This YT review says one of the RAM sticks is soldered. Rather, I should say one of the comments for the video....
So, I guess the other can be swapped for RAM upgrade..

Not really much of a deal. This is normal price typically. Grabbed it about a month ago at this price.

Unless you need one now. Not seeing many on sale right now which is typical this time of year. If you can wait the 6000 series or Intel Gen 12's will be much improved and they will support USB 4 and DDR5 so big improvements. Should come out in February.

My comment was directed more at the fact its prolly not a "sale". 550 is a bit overinflated for this laptop. The wm in the model number usually indicates a "special buy" which means selling price is normal price until it gets clearanced out. It's a good price and my wife plays Skyrim, fallout 4, Sims, and Planet * games on ultra/high with no issues.

thanks ....I will be thinking about it this week.
...I will receive it today and check if I want to keep it or not.
I made another post about what a bad panel looks like here>> https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=153178975&postcount=33

-----------------------------------------------------------------
update: First impressions are the laptop is nice with ok build quality, and quick response, but I did notice the lack of color accurate TN panel.
Screen looks a bit hazy compared to my other IPS level MSI laptop previously. But that's an unfair comparison of a gaming laptop vs this basic low priced one. I have 2 other 10 year old laptops with TN glossy 768p panels, and they also look a bit better than this HP screen.
--So this HP does have poor viewing angles (if screen is "not" tilted back)- side to side, and head level high and low, dims screen more than better laptop screens.

I found that placing screen at a backward tilt 15 to 45 degree angle improves colors and details, so your eyes have a direct on view- facing the screen...The Angle of screen depends on how much higher our head level is to the level of the laptop. ; Keyboard is ok but it does have a plasticky vibrating feel (So if you are picky about keyboard, then typing experience may vary.).
Speakers seem ok too with better base and highs and loudness compared to other cheap laptops, not too bad at all. (Surprisingly sounds good to me despite others saying bad things.)

With the screen lid straight up while our eyes are looking down at the screen, it looks hazy, grey & washed out with whites blowing out details.
--so you have to view the laptop at a very specific direct view angle to improve the image clarity and colors, (for those who like this laptop and want to keep it)......Just keep in mind some types of images cannot be improved with TN panels like this, eg. Dark movies sometimes look grey and difficult to see/washed out.

Seems a great price to me. I understand this is a Special Buy but many of them are indeed great prices. I ended up paying $330 for the $270 Target deal because they gave me the wrong one and I had to return it. I did not see a better price for a month. This is not that much more and it is far better.

Yes Black Friday days this would not be that great but we are not in that now or anytime soon.

I'm typing on an E5450. Upgraded the memory to 16GB (no soldered RAM, 2 slots). No gaming pc, but ALL parts are easily serviceable. If you go with the older latitude, drop in an SSD and up the RAM and long live the old latitude. Bonus = backlit keyboard from 2015 Smilie Get's it done cheap.

Battery life is like what? 3 hours? I had an army of them at work.

No idea. Always on the grid. I rarely use the battery. A new battery is cheap anyway.

Again not exactly on par. At any rate you can do what you want but when single core scores are that low the difference between them isn't as big as when you get into high numbers. Keep in mind geekbench is catered towards apps and smart phone and tablet apps and this is a full windows machine.

That low a single core score is like comparing a 6 hp lawn mower engine to a 7hp lawnmower engine. It's not super noticeable to the average person. Until they need to do something that needs a lot of cores and threads. Those extra cores and threads are gonna come in way more handy for the average person. Software now is being programmed to take advantage of more and more cores and soon 4 cores even "slightly" faster 4 cores in very specific work loads will easily get out classed by a 6 core machine
I am still surprised how AMD managed to fit that much performance in a 15w TDP, while i3 uses 28w for getting only 76% of the multi thread performance against 5500u.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...3995vs4141

Yes you can find i3-1125G4 based laptops for cheaper than $399 but taking into the performance/power consumption into consideration, nothing really beats 5500u and it has been like that for the past year.

Intel i3 also runs hotter, a lot hotter than ryzen for the same task (associated with the power draw). AMD is changing my perception slowly but surely.

6000 series won't come out for a very long time unfortunately. They are required to have DDR5 RAM, and there's a massive shortage of those sticks.

I don't know why they required that, but they did. Probably to get the high IGPU stats they showed at CES.

If you pay attention only Lenovo promised laptops for 6000 series (non H) and they're all business oriented laptops due to their new security chip, so I think the majority of the volume will go to B2B. Their Yoga 6 will still have 5000 series, and even in AMD's slides there's mostly 5000 series processors for the U series.

12th Gen intel so far is looking like a mixed bag: great for high end laptops and desktops but with worse power draw then before (which already was a hog). The big little design might be a disappointment for the low end 15W chips while drawing more power than current as the base clocks are low (their load is 55W…which is significantly higher than current Intel chips, so I think all those cores will come at the price of worse battery life).

So I think getting a Ryzen laptop is going to be the best bet for awhile at this power draw level. Maybe by Black Friday you'll start seeing 6800U laptops but even then they'll be focused on the high end. The value will still be the 5000 series until next year when DDR5 becomes more standard in laptops.

tl;dr: 2022 will be amazing for gaming laptops…but ultraportables will stagnate, or maybe get worse slightly.

2023 though will probably be amazing for ultraportables.
