Samsung emailed me this price drop for $279.99, but when I logged in, my account has a military discount which dropped the price to $251.99... so I added 2 of them to my cart, and the price dropped AGAIN to $244 per drive. I was able to put these on my samsung credit account to get 12 mo no interest as well. As far as I know this is the lowest price ever for this drive from a reputable source?

Side note, if you are looking for an SSD in the short term, it might be a good idea to pick up one of the deals posted on SD, there are some good ones right now. Can't see the future, but the 7exabyte contamination incident increases chances that pricing will be going up in the near future (maybe): https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...sh-memory/

Great deal! I have this SSD with a built in heatsink in the 2TB configuration. Last week GameStop had a sale on the heatstink 2TB version of this compatible with PC and PS5 for $209 (pro members only). Unfortunately the sale lasted a couple of hours as far as I know. I thought it was a price mistake and my order was going to get cancelled but I received mine and just installed it yesterday. Speeds are ridiculous!

That is an insane price... I missed it... or that alone would have been worth the Pro membership and then some :/.

I was able to get in on that deal as well. I wasn't a Pro Member beforehand so I added the $14.99 membership to my cart along with the drive. It was roughly $243 after tax. That was the best deal I've seen by far for a 2TB Samsung 980 w/Heat sink. Make sure you update it so you can get faster speeds.

Nice! I'm going to take advantage of their future trade in promos, and use the $5 coupon they give you each month for Steam cards if I can.

Maybe sure your MoBo supports PCIe 4.0, otherwise you can get the 970 much cheaper.
My computer is only a few years old and doesn't support 4.0

So on the Samsung site, it says it must be installed with a heat sink - sold separately. Is this really necessary due to it's nickel thermal coating?

TIA

I don't think so in most cases, #1 depends on the workload, and most enduser workloads won't push the drive hard enough to make prolonged thermal dissipation an issue to the degree that a specialized heat sink is needed, and #2 many install locations include a heatsink, eg for my desktops the NVMe slots have integrated head spreaders that work fine, and for my laptops same thing. You can always monitor the temps over time and determine if you need one before springing for a heatsink...
