Apparently there are a few variants of this model, and one of them is prone to jams and requires nonstandard trimmer line.
most of the more recent reviews are good, but there are multiple "it just quit working after x uses"

Yes the jamming is primarily with the older model.
I put the top of the battery area under my arm and the balance is ok.
