Sounds like a helicopter at load - even when undervolted by 100mv. Hotter than hell too. WiFi card crawls. Like 10-20mbps downloads on a 1 gig service and an ac mesh network. This seems be a widespread issue and is almost certainly a design issue with the antenna. Wired connection works as expected. Screen is actually good for the price point. No mux switch. Keyboard feels nice after getting used to it. I added 16g (took out the original 8) ram and a 970 pro SSD.

It does really well as an Oculus server.

While most of what I wrote may seem like I don't like this machine, the opposite is true. It does a really nice job if you have properly set expectations. It's easy to upgrade and if you use headphones you won't even notice the fan noise. The wifi thing is really the one big thing that jangles my spurs.

If that few hundred extra bucks for an unthrottled 3060 isn't in the budget and you want something now, this is hard to beat at this price point.
Don't stress the sticker. The FTC has made it very very clear those warranty void stickers are not enforceable.

Not bad for a 3060 for under 1k, just a 10th Gen. Buy an additional stick of 8GB RAM and you'll be golden.

Costco is selling a 17" i7 version of this with 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD for $1299 on sale. We got one for our son. It is heavy though. "Thin" is a bit of a misnomer.

It works great with a Steam connection for Oculus Quest 2 games.

I wonder if there will be any Open Box units before the sale ends.

If that price is for RTX 3060 version, then you overpaid.

Here's a review of the laptop, but with 16gb ram in dual channel.

https://youtu.be/AIy7H1USs5Y

Key notes:

- screen 25ms response time
- 3060 is 75w in this laptop.

Previous gen in this chassis 9300H / 2060 hit $799 almost exactly a year ago. Not the greatest machine overall but seems they like they are selling a good number of them.

Great price for an entry level gaming laptop. Adding a second, larger SSD should be easy, and same with a second stick of RAM. Both are advisable future upgrades.

Usage warning for those looking at this one. ALL USB ports are on the right side. Just a heads up, as using a mouse along with the attached keyboard and screen, you'll have to give yourself more room on that side to accommodate the plugs for any USB and also the Ethernet if you run wired. With this in mind on the mouse, a wireless gaming mouse would be your best option on that, since the receivers are very small, and less obstructive than the strain relief alone on any USB cables.

Note these have a safety sticker on one of the screws in the back cover. Means if you try to upgrade its ram or ssd, the warranty will be void. Also, the keyboard layout is different from the traditional keyboards which needs time to get used to.The backlight is only red and sometimes i dont like it but that is personal preference.

Bottom line is that this is the cheapest laptop available with a 3060 in it which consistently gives 38.5 MH/s when not in use and should recover some of the face value overtime.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. It would be nice to hear personal experiences if someone can share after removing the sticker.

Not a bad deal, but this model is using the gimped RTX 3060 with 75 watts, which is slightly better than RTX 3050 models

would be anazing deal if this had a 100+ watts RTX 3060

6gb 3060 vs 4gb 3050 right? What advantage is the RAM size for gaming? CoD runs for me on a 1060 around 5gb VRAM. I'm asking I don't know.

To add to this, some online benchmarking indicates this MSI at 75W TDP scored about 20% lower than a max (130W TDP) 3060 comparable laptop.
