I'll add my 2 cents here since this information helped me on another thread. This device is more powerful than your regular Fire TV stick and Chromecast w/GTV. It may or may not be noticeable in everyday tasks but where I feel that it really shines is in streaming games from my PC to my TV. I get smooth 1080P streaming with no artifacts and no noticeable lag. I've tested multiple other devices and none of them was as good.

Can you wirelessly stream audio from a fire tv stick to your echos? I have a "home theater" setup with fire tv cube and 2 echos and echo sub all synced and playing together wirelessly from whatever I'm watching from my fire tv cube. It's so convenient in fact that I'm getting rid of my klipsch 2.1 setup in my bedroom

I had an 8 year old Fire TV I used for trade in for an additional 20% off. Thanks!
I set up a trade but it looks like you only get the 20% after they receive your trade? Its not coming off during checkout for me?

Do you know if this can play my 4k Atmos Blu Ray 80Gb Rips from my NAS using Kodi just like my Shield TV ?
I am interested in this as well. Can the cube replace the shield TV as a kodi machine for streaming 4k atmos hdr mkv?

How's the speaker on this gen 2 cube? Reviews on the gen 1 were not great, lots of folks saying it sounded like a echo puck.

Vs the 4K max firestick?
Good comparison of fire streaming devices. Article is recently written from Tom's Guide.
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/fire...19962.html

From the article:

"...To put it bluntly, there is almost no reason why anyone should invest in the Fire TV Stick, when the 4K variant is only $10 more and comes with a much better remote control. Not only will you be future-proofing your purchase, but you'll also have a better peripheral right off the bat. And if performance and app open times matter to you, get the Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
The Fire TV Cube, on the other hand, is a bit expensive. This makes sense, though, as it's not just a Fire TV device — it's also a full-fledged Alexa speaker. If you don't have a smart speaker in your den, or want your very own digital assistant built into a versatile streaming box, the Fire TV Cube makes sense.
In the battle of Fire Stick 4K vs. Fire Stick vs. Fire TV Cube, the $50 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K represents the sensible midpoint that should work best for most viewers. It has the best balance of price and functionality."

With the recent update, they blocked certain apps, such as custom launchers and debloaters (where you can disable most of the amazon stuff)
I can't blame Amazon for blocking custom launchers that remove advertising since that makes them money. Side loading of apps has been a feature for awhile so I doubt they'll remove it but can see them blocking any app that removes their advertising revenue.

Do you know what accessory you would need for trade-in? I'm trading in my old fire stick as well.

The Cube Gen 2 (This one) has better specs than even the new Firestick Max. It's below the Nvidia Shield and Apple TV, but right up there after those two. One of the best devices you can get. For $70 a great deal. Can't find the darn chart, but it's like #3 or #4 on performance.

Yes, you can sideload kodi onto these. The codec specs are here : https://developer.amazon.com/docs...-cube.html

Thanks. So the only thing missing is DTS. Can the memory be expanded?

EDIT: OK apparently this device has no passthrough so no atmos, dts etc so not good for kodi

You can add a USB flash drive but will need to buy a OTG USB cable or adapter which are cheap, under $10.

If we're being honest, the only real perk for a normal user is this basically combines the echo and the fire TV stick - still, very tempting to grab another
This does NOT combine a fire stick and an echo. I bought it thinking that same thing, and was very disappointed. It doesn't support the intercom feature. It doesn't support multi room audio.

That's ridiculous. Instead of your "home theater" you could actually have a home theater for whatever you paid for those. The sound quality on all of these things are not good enough to use like this.

And yes, you absolutely can stream audio from the fire stick to 2 echos and a sub.
